View Full Version : De Cat
Ive got a 1.4i nova, and after reading novabug, it says having the cat on makes 12bhp difference! so if i removed the cat how much gains am i expected to get ?
Also what sorta cat replacements pipes are there for novas?, are they easy to fit or require garage to fit ? I know i need it for MOT so if its too difficult i wont bother as it would mean changing every year.
i know its prolly not as simple as im making it sound, could someone give me more info on it please?

just fit a non cat 1.2 center section
unbolt cat, bolt on new pipe.
Technical forum?
does the ECU not need to be changed ?

the cat reduces 12bhp???
news to me!!!
i know the 1.4i is 12bhp short of the 1.4 carb and SOME of this may be related to the CAT but the SPi system doesnt provide as much air/fuel as the carbs either
one question i have:
if i was to fit a full SR system to my 1.2i what do i do with the lamdba probe? what purpose does it actually serve on the 1.2i? i disconnected it for a few days and didnt notice any real issues but i think the engine runs in cold start mode permenantly (ie runs rich) without it
can anyone confirm this for me?
thanks
The new 1.4i Cat. saw the addition of fuel injection to attempt to compensate for the inclusion of a Catalytic Converter, but despite the fuel injection, the power was down from 72 PS, to 60 PS!
From novabug, im just going on what that says. So do you think it will improve performance much to remove it ?

it was my understanding that the injection system used (SPi) was cack and the cat just made it worse
that quote makes out they changed to fuel injection to compensate for the restrictive cat where infact they need the injection to ensure the mix is correct all the time to stop damaging the cat with dodgy fuelling
try it and see what kinda power gains u get, u might uncover a nice surprise
i posted over on mig and they suggested an SRi manifold and downpipe, a GTE center section and any back box
i assume this is because the lambda hole is in the SRi manifold
what i wanna know is will the two match up for the ports n shit?
i thught the SRi was cathdral ports and the 1.2i/1.4i were square ports ???
wooooosh
right over my head
i best go read up :)

it doesn't matter too much on the exhaust side... as long as the holes arn't smaller

so a SRi maifold and front pipe / GTE center pipe / Saloon back box hybrid system will flow better than the standard one?
if so will all that stuff bolt onto a C14NZ with a 1.2/1.3 carb head ok?
what kinda prices are we lookin at for a SRi manifold and downpipe?
i think there is a GTE in me local scrappy so i should be able to get the center section from that
