any one here ever have the speedo calibrate on a dyno to see how far out they were

No, but 90mph on nova clocks was 75 on my GPS on a private road.

turbojolt

that a big diffrence lol

Yeah, but 70mph on nova Clocks was about 66 on GPS.

so they get worse as the speed gets higher

That's kinda obvious mate. Say the clocks are 10% out, @ 30mph you're actually doing 27mph, @ 70mph you're doing 63mph. The higher the speed, the greater the error, but the percentage margin will be the same.

Where as Corsa's, there speedo's are nigh bang on according to my Tom Tom. 90mph on the speedo reads 90mph on satnav.

EDIT: Come to think of it, when I picked Burgo up the other week, 98mph in the Astra (Mk3 Sport) was also 98mph on satnav.

Proves my thoery, Nova's are radically sh1t lol lol

Half of it is to do with tyre size & how worn the pick up is in the gearbox.

Mine isnt too bad tbh.

My Coupe is spot on (elec drive) My old Astra GSi was 2 mph out. Over reading nova clocks are great:D:D

mr green the wear in the drive doesnt matter. regardless of how worn it is. it will still turn a proportionate number of times per revolution of the diff. the answer to calibrating them lies deep within the speedo its self. bending the pick ups towards the rotating magnets gives it a higher reading, and the opposite is the case for making it read lower.

tyre size would give you a linear offset of the reading throught the spedos range.

It is pretty much 10%.
At pod, crossing the line at about 100 ish mph on the clocks, was 89mph on the printout.

How accurate are Astra Gte digi dials?

Adam
04-11-08, 05:18 PM
More accurate. Still not accurate though

lol lol
So what are they?lol

General Baxter

well at 30mph its reading 28,

50mph its reading 48,
100mph its reading 98,

well thats mine anyway lol

when i had normal clocks in, i was going warp speed on the way back from pod, the noticed my clocks were 30mph out lol

they should at least be linear as theyre digital. its just a simple calcultion based on the number of counts per revolution.

I hear you, but the one I replaced on my old 1200 dropped the in gear speeds down.

i went from a F10wr, to a F13cr in my 1.poo, at 5mph it was doing 15mph, 30mph it was doing 40, same clocks and cable lol

i dont think there are any bang on dials out there to be honest just some that are better the overs

i have just understood what you were getting at.

Well I was drving a 1300 carb Nova on a private road, with a Corsa B 5 speed gearbox, and it wouldn't cross 100 on the clocks.

This is roughly what a standard 1300 sr Nova should do, and it felt like 100 mph. Would the corsa box give more accurate readings, or is the car just down on power a bit?

Massive 195/60/R15 tyres, on nova povery spec dials - speedo read 71mph and GPS said 70. I dread to think what it was like on standard 1.0 skinny wheels then lol

im starting to think that Nova speedo's are fine and its GPS that is in-accurate.

I take the word of something that knows where I am every few seconds, over something roughly calibrated up to 25 years ago.

not very, i had a set showing 148mph from a Nova with standard xe in lmfao i expect i was going 110-120 realistically.

i got mine checked by the police speed gun 100% accurate after guesstimating where to put the needle on my cally clocks. Only time i was happy to see a speed gun.

i got the same in my old XE when i hit limiter in 5th

My Nova had pretty accurate dials. At random speeds took readings and it would be 2 - 3 mph out according to satnav.

But then again; bigger wheels fitted and the 6 dial clocks I fitted have a different 'W' number on them compared to the ghetto speedo only dials I had in originally.
