It all runs and drives perfect:wtf:. but i was reading how to fit a 1.6 engine on a forum on this site and it says u cant fit a 4 speed box (f10)to a 1.6 enigne but its got a 4speed on it and ive drove it and its selects all 4 gears with no problem and there in no fifth gear:wtf: . So what i was woundering that can u fit a 4speed selector to a five speed box .plz help:thumb:

I guess you mean that there is no 5th? But it could be that the tab on the gear selector hasnt been chopped off. You need to find eather the number of the gearbox (behind the gear selector IIRC) or take a pic of the end of the gearbox.

If it's originally a 1.4i model, pretty sure this had 5 speed as standard therefor the tab is already off. Chances are the gearbox has 4 sp internals or the linkage is so worn or out of alignment, you just can't get it into 5th.

well normaly if u try to select fifth gear in a 5speed and somthings wrong with your gearbox it wud gring or be stiff getting it in fifth. on mine wen i select forth the gear lever is all the way over to driver side as it can go, so its like there's not a fifth gear there to be selected

Does it have 5 on the top of the gear lever, if so, sounds like the linkage is miles out of alignment.

Pull up the gaitor and take a photo, post it up so we can see.

lift the gaitor and you will see, its very clear what needs to be removed.

Or, like me (when I had a brain fade moment) the gearbox has a 4speed shifter box on it & it will never select 5 cos the linkage is for a 4 speed. the only fix for it was to find a 5 speed shifter box in a scrappy.

look at the box on top of the gearbox, if it has a piccy of 5speeds & reverse, then the problem is elsewhere, if there is no piccy, or a 4speed piccy, that is the problem

Even the F10 4speeds show 5, and they cannot select the 5th.

the 4 speed shifter on my g reg (1.0 base originally) was a 4speed only & trust me, it is different, I spent hours trying to make it select 5th before the road to damascus moment
