Anyone owned/driven one of these? Ive been having a look at them as a possible upgrade to the Nova LET maybe in a year or two. Power to weight figures are knowhere near the nova even a pulsar was running 320+. Its the 4WD thats tempting though. Interested to hear any opinions people have on them....

there very heavy little things, you need 320bhp just to make it move lol

They go like merry ****! But the gearboxes are a weak point. Nice car though.

Yeah gearboxes are always the failure. I like them though.

Pig ugly, even worse looking that novas. I'm not a great fan tbh, I'd rather have a coupé than a hatchback (and an ugly one at that), and for the weight of them you can get quite a few other 4WD turbo cars.

As said, gearboxes are weak, and the brakes are shockingly bad - if you get one, change them asap.

Oh, and they're ugly btw

:D

Yeh id heard about the transmission issues, they are growing on me if im honest regardless of their looks. I think i want something more factory and refined as the Nova isnt...i suppose id only modify that though so it would be never ending plus they are a similar age to the nova.

id have one, but very poor mpg, and group 20 insurance lol

edit, that sounds like me to a T lol

End of the day it depends what you want from a car. Down the qtr mile you'll be VERY hard pushed to find a car that will beat one - $$ for $$.

My last one was running 400bhp/400lb-ft and raced a mate (at the time) that had a corsa let running 300-320bhp rolling at 40mph he whoooped me  but after about 80/90mph, there would have been very little in it. All comes down to that power to weight ratio :thumb:

As for gearboxes  my black one was running 369bhp and was fine- car had covered 60k and had gearbox oil changes every year. Blue one was running a quaife :D Some last and some don't. If you want one running 320bhp, gearbox will be fine, just make sure it's got an uprated clutch and change the box oil when you 1st get it.

At the moment - yeah. But car isn't an every day car, is just for fun and mainly plan to use the car for track days next year. Like I said, it all depends what you want from a car :thumb:

Am loving the Nova at the moment, is more of a challange to drive and once i've got use to it/fwd - happy days

Nice cars :thumb: - but slow and heavy for what they are and expensive to get decent power/performance out of - stick with the Nova :thumb:

Fixed that for you :thumb:

Pulsar is an absolute pig to work on, and can be fragile. Esp as they're getting on a bit now, and they're nowhere near as cheap as they were. Not the fastest thing in the world either. Got to remember they were a cheap alternative to cossies and integrales. If you're after bang for your buck get a scoob

Its far from slow. Its heavier than an Evo and Impreza, but the power figures are only about 15-20bhp off (255 compared to 276 in the STi Impreza and 270 of the Evo III), but easy to tune and lose weight for relatively little cost. And its group 17E insurance compared to the 20 of the Evo and Impreza :D

And being a Toyota, it will never break down :p

iirc uk car is 0-60 in 6.5 compared to the sti 4.8, not sure on jap spec to be fair (the uk impreza doesn't count, it's dog slow lol ), import will also be group 20 though

Don't I recall some rear diff issues? ;p

Jack

Nope... :p

Gearbox had problems, but it still worked :D

0-60 of an ST205 is 6 I believe. Not bad considering the lacking power and extra lard. UK and JDM ones are all the same btw, the only difference is the JDM ECU is tuned to 100 ron fuel or something, hence having an extra 15bhp over the UK 95-tuned ECU. Having said that, my UK one doesn't like 95...

my mate has just sold his gti-r. hes had it for years and keeps on going on about how quick it is. iv always felt it was slow tho and iv driven it and it was awful. the seats and the position was just wrong. iv also heard the 4wd are very poor. i would def not sell a turbo nova for one anyway
