Just wondering if it's worth getting one and where can I get one as I can't find one anywhere. Do people normally make their own?

they have a lot more relevance than a rear strut brace. you do see them on the bay every few months..

Rear brace is a fantastic mod to do, really stiffens up the rear end.
A must do.

Didnt find the lower front did much when i tryed it years back.

There very hard to get hold of, although Ive sold 4 in the last 12 months. Only thing is a lot of them are blatently in th way of the exhuast system.

This is how they fit:

could it not be made (if you were making one)to sit higher but not hit the gear box mount or even bend under the bulk head a little?

They must make a difference as alot of cars have them. My mates E36 m3 has one standard so do some renaults etc

even if it could sit over the mount, it would almost certainly hit the gearbox itself.
