How can i tell the difference between an early xe and a late xe engine

The early have a dizzy and the late hve a coilpack

early cream injectors and late blue.

There is also a difference on the cambelt cover. The late ones have an extra curve, but it's usless without piccys.

That's a late coilpack model. What's it in a cav?

Thats a dis pack engine. Note the black plastic unit on the side of the head. That is a late spec addition i *think*

i thought as much but had to make sure before i go off any buy all the parts for a complete rebuild of it and yes its in an L reg cav SRi

I had mine out of a late cav, mine turned out to have a coscast head on it too.

sweet be nice if mine has have a guess how much i have paid for it all engine box loom ecu shafts mounts the lot

Not that it really matters. It could have lunched itself, in which case doesnt matter how cheap you got it

No I know. Always a bonus though if you've bag a cheap'un and find it's got one on.

nah aint heard it running but it dont matter its being stripped down and it will be tested for leaks crack basically its gonna be a new engine the only parts that may not be changed is pistons, cams and pullys eberything else replaceable will be done















i am paying £150 for it

£150 is a very good price, best to hear it running tho. That way you know its not a bag o crap.

Yeah i'd try and get it running, and up to temp, before you rip it out.

even if it aint running it will be when im finished and to be honest its a risk most people take when buying an engine that is out of the car so for £150 i aint gonna complain evan if it aint running now

same i got an nova xe for £100 a year ago and it had an xe in it disc brake back axle and brand new lowering kit, and the xe had been sat for 3 years put it in me nova fired up after abit of messing tapped for abit though:thumb:

yep tappets filling up with oil, was a good strong engine and was quick, smoked ever so slightly
