Ok - I got a GSi camshaft from Adam D.

I was comparing it with my standard C16SE cam when I took a phone call. So I set them down one at each end of the bench so I knew which one was which.
I came back into the garage and the kids had lifted the camshafts and using them as swords.

So anyone know the ID numbers.

One has a D on the coil pack end and the numbers 915, 14 and 165 stamped between the lobes.

The other has a B, 916, 10 and I cant make out the other number but it could be 155,165, 185??

Somebody help please.

you need to teach your kids a lesson.

a nova camshaft is a thing of great mechanical beauty and must never be treated in such a way.

.............. I actually suspect the GSi to be the one with the D stamped on it.

what makes you suspect such a thing Mr Pob?

There was a slight score around the cental bearing that after a bit of polish and a clean up it almost came out. I think the one with D on it is the one I polished.
I then coated it in oil and by the time the kids had played with both of them, rolled then in the dust etc they both look the same.

As above I suspect the D to be the GSi, but I was hoping somebody would know the numbers.

both c16se and e16se should be D. a B cam is down as a 1.3 cam in the haynes and in standard unworn form the B cam has more lift

Did the 1.3 ever come with a coil pack?
Both cams are definitely from coil pack engines, there is no dist drive.

I wouldn't always go with haynes info TBH
My old gte cam( i removed it from a std gte myself), had B stamped on it.

ok so I borrowed a micrometer from work, and I can conclude that there is negligible differences in the cam lobes of each profile; within 3 tenths of a mm. As both camshafts must be atleast 15 years old by now, I think that is close enough.
I measured overall greatest lobe dim, lift on the "lift" side of the lobe and tried to measure the at rest dim but that was too small to get accurately.

The B cam is definitely a c16se cam as it came with the carrier and throttle body with the extra idle control valve on it that only map sensor cars have.

Therefore is a GSi cam the same as a C16se? or have I been sold a cam from some other car in the vauxhall range that somebody believed it to be a GSi but isn't?

And finally something completely diferent - did the GSi always have an electric petrol pump or did it ever have a cam driven pump?
