right i will proberly need to buy a new door for the girl freinds nova as i don't think it can be repaired due to rust on the hinge side down the bottom so what i need to know is all nova doors the same ?as her gte doors have black/grey that go round the window frame

The actual doors are all the same size and shape etc.

BUT like you mentioned the trim on the different models may vary slightly, from one model to the next.

Can you not get hte edging off the old door to fit onto the new one?

i was told by a 'local yocal' type at a nearby breakers yard that mk1 and mk2 doors are totally different.
but havin never actually stood each type next to the other i couldnt say if this is true or not.
he may be lying,he did look like a muppet.

The front door on both the five dorr hatch and 4 door saloon are the same (mk 1 and 2)...

....and the front doors on the 3 door hatch and 2 door saloon are the same (mk 1 and 2).

yeh having successfully fitted 2 mk1 rear doors, a mk1 front door and a mk2 front door to my mk2 saloon i can tell ya they are identical

the mk2 has different catches on the front and plastic interior panels rather than fabric ones and in my case the fitments (window winders and handles) on the mk1 were black and the mk2 were grey

I've got a Mk1 door on my Mk2! A ?20 door was a whole lot cheaper than sorting rust!

The SR had the grey plastic along the bottom of the door and grey paint around the window, I just got it sprayed to match, looks ok!

Strange thing is that the door is wider than it is high and it can fit into the back of a hatch with the seats down and yourself crammed against the dash

if you have a GTE the trim around the window can be removed. Its like a metal bead that finishes the window off and runs behind the wing mitrror. Also the rubber seal in the glass is different of the sportier models to allow for the bead.

you can get this bead off by gently prising from inside the window frame with a flat head screw driver - take the wing mirror off 1st though.

If yer gonna get a new door, the only extra bit you'll need is the vynal from the bottom/edge (if yer car has it) - the rest can be taken from the existing door (glass, trim etc...)

Good luck geting it off! Get a hinge pin removal tool to make yer life "somewhat" easier...

sm mk 2 doors are different, they have an hole in the door (by hinge) for electrics to go through. they also have different spaces holes for the door card

O yeah holes are different but, why were drills put on this earth?

The grey vynal ade talked about can be replaced by grey paint. A hinge tool really helps, it's not one of those jobs where a big hammer solves all problems!
