Looking at the front of the fusebox (Fuses facing you), I am sure the go to the far bottom right.

i thought that aswell as there is a ignition live there but no permanent live

There is no permanent live for the windows, just ignition live & negative.

thought these two connectors pictured are a constant live and a switched live? and the earth is near the switches?

I forgot about that earth near the gear selector, been a wee while since I had a mk2 and electric windows. Apologies.

Hopefully someone with proper knowledge will sort you out soon.:thumb:

iirc the two wires clip into the bottom right hand side of the fuse box in the bottom two slots. they will only go in one way as they are slightly different shaped. hope this helps. if not i can always go out and have a look at mine for you

iirc the live wire runs off to another fuse in the fuse box. follow the wire from the back of the box and you will find where it is:thumb:

ah i see what you mean, so just leave them two wires where they are clipped in yes?

stevenf
29-10-08, 06:16 PM
yes as there will already be a fuse in the fuse box so no need to attatch another one anywhere

The two wires as said go in the corner, the fuse is on another fuse, look at tthe back of your cover.

The reason why there is a permanent supply as well as the switched supply is for the central locking, as this uses part of the loom. If central locking isn't used, theres no need to connect the red wire. The fuse will be the one marked for central locking.

ok thanks mate, all plugged in now the c/l works fine but the e/w don't:wtf: , anyone shed some light on this problem thanks

Have you tried changing the switchs with each other (if its possible, while since ive played with E/W) And tried pushing the switch both ways, Also make sure there is nothing snagging the windows. AFAIK the only earth is on the tunnel so, check that too.

ive checked the electric window live which goes to fusebox (black) and there in no live going to it using a multimeter, but when i put a live straight from the battery to the e/w live the drivers one works ok but the passenger one struggles and doesn't move, ive checked both motors and there working fine its baffleing me

Check for a broken wire in the loom going to the passenger door motor. My SRI's passenger door e/w didn't work and this was the cause. Broken where the wires bend when opening and closing the door.

Are you fitting e/w's to a model that didn't have them originally?

belly257

will have a check in a min but it seems like its getting power to the pass side e/w motor, yes the car did not have e/w c/l originally it is a poverty spec mk2 k reg?

Shaun_O'Donnell

It could be intermittant(sp) power caused by broken wires and not enough to power the motor up, or the mechanism could be jammed. Take the motor off the windo mechanism and try that.

belly257

just checked no broken wires, may be further up the loom, when i put power to the two terminals on the e/w motor it moves up and down freely

Use the drivers side switch for the passenger side motor, could be a dodgy switch.

im sure i had an earth wire from the window motor on mine. may be wrong though lol

Shaun_O'Donnell
30-10-08, 03:22 PM
Positive there is no seperate motor earth.

belly257
30-10-08, 03:24 PM
ah i think thts the feckerlol thats that problem sorted now just why the black ignition live is not getting a live to the fusebox? might take an ignition live off somewhere else

It'll probably be that your fusebox was not intending to run e/w possibly just c/l.

Not all of the looms in novas had the wire from the fuse to where the windows plug in on the fusebox, fuse 11 iirc, if its not there then you need to use another switched live source with a decent rated fuse i think ive used the wiper feed before now as theyre 25-30 amp but not 100% sure though.

30-10-08, 03:42 PM
ok mate how would i do that, just splice the e/w ign live into the wiper feed wire comeing out back of the fusebox yes?

Spudly
30-10-08, 03:45 PM
Pretty much yes, just make sure you do it on the feed from the fuse not to the fuse otherwise youre windows wont be fused, i cant remember exactly but i think the top one is the feed in but check youre haynes or check with a multi-meter before doing so to make certain you get it on the fused side!

AH! I forgot about having to add that wire, on mine i had the E/W included in the deal with my dash and loom.

As above tho, let us know how you get on :)

belly257

right sorted it, can't remember which one i put the e/w live to but it had a decent rated fuse in it and had an ignition live to it, windows work ok they go abit slow think thats due to the car been sat for 6 month loadsa crap in the rubbers, just need a switch for the passenger side as i think it is faulty
