just so we dont mess up simons post
3dr = 2 doors and boot
5dr = 4 doors and boot
ive always said 3dr and 5dr aswell
imo a door is a means of entering or exiting a vehicle. now if you can get in and out of car via the boot on a standard saloon you must be some kind of magician.
Imo either a hatch or loon is a two or four door as the way i see it, is its only a door if you use it to get in like youve said.

In terms of 'loons, i'd say 2dr or 4dr.
Imo either a hatch or loon is a two or four door as the way i see it, is its only a door if you use it to get in like youve said.no the hatchbacks are deffo 3 and 5 door. think of it as in the event of a weird emergency where you couldnt use the "doors" you could still use the boot to climb out of hence why its classed as a door
Still sounds wrong really in my eyes (or should that be ears) ive had this dicussion with a few mates before and the way i see it, the hatch is a two door with a hatch-back or a tailgate, otherwise for example the 205GTi wouldnt have been the first ever hot hatch it would have been a hot door lol
It makes sense if you think about it but there are equal arguments either way its all down to personal preference tbh!

That doesn't make sense... we're not talking about what constitutes a hatchback lol
I'm with Burgo. I'd say though if it has glass, its a "door". hence why liftback coupés are 3drs, whilst normal coupés are 2drs.
Na im feeling argumentative lol
Dictionary definition of hatch:
2. an opening that serves as a doorway or window
Note use of "doorway" :p

Spud, my nova and my astra both have two doors.

Rover SD1? The golf GTI and the SD1 were both launched in June 1976, but I don't know which days,

i wouldn't really call the SD1 a hot hatch though...
Furry muff i fail at pretty much everything then dont i lol
well if your saying that all novas are 2 and 4 doors then the nova cant be classed as a hot hatch
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_hatch
I wouldn't class the nova as a hot hatch lol
Rover SD1? The golf GTI and the SD1 were both launched in June 1976, but I don't know which days,
November 1975, Chevette GL. Sporty bumpers and such!
Renault 5 Alpine also came before the Golf
I wouldn't class the nova as a hot hatch lol
More a luke warm one tbh, ill admit defeat and sit on the naughty step for ten minutes now then:cry:
surely the Scimitar was the first hot Hatch.....it invented the concept of a sporty hatchback.........

Scimitar was a Coupé originally, then an "Estate" from '68.
Aston Martin DB2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aston_Martin_DB2/4) was apparently a hatchback, does that count? lol
I see what u mean about Saloons being 2drs and hatchbacks being 3drs. its just what people up here say.
sorry i apologise :(
