Someone still owns it. The chequers are Blue & it was sold with a different down-specced engine & box to what Courtenay initially put in it.

If the same car, stickers strangley can be peeled off and changed

It wasnt hers anyway, she used it in the film & did apparently comment that if Courtenay wanted to sell it she'd snap it up.

John Shield of Courtenay whipped off the pink chequers as that was her request & due I guess to it now having an identity from the Full throttle video, put them back on in a sensible colour.

NovaBoi92
26-10-08, 08:18 PM
how do you know its the same one?

Sturge
26-10-08, 08:22 PM
It was Jon's own sport, they used it for the filming, Jon kept it pink for about a year after the video came out understandably to take advantage of the publicity, changed it to blue. Intended to convert it back to a 1300 but never got the chance and someone came along with an offer he couldn't refuse. Simple really

A 16V TB, beautiful

If this ever came up for sale I'd have to buy it, full nut and bolt restore and have it sat in the garage next to the Sport... :-)

Yeah was looking minty, me martin and matt (k36tdd) saw it on the 0-60 strip and nearly wet ourselves when it did something alont the lines of a high 3sec 0-60 and a nearby chav commented that "a shiddy old nova would never be that fast so the timing gear must be out" lmao we pointed out the "pttsshhh" it said between gearchanges and he mumbled "fcuk off they never turbo`d a nova".

I think "oh dear go back to you saxo, DICK" was our response lol

nova sport with no decals etc, and a sunroof? Think that might just be a base Mk1 myself. Anyone know if it's on the 'official' list of sports?

Pistol Pete
27-10-08, 11:40 AM
No mention of C 318 YRW in the sport register section, so not sure if it is indeed a sport?!

craig green
27-10-08, 11:50 AM
Apparently it was a genuine Sport.

It was purchased by John Shield from a local police auction as it was impounded due to being involved in a police chase.

loggyboy
27-10-08, 11:50 AM
any car can have decals removed and an aftermarket sunroof cut in.

the register is by far from definitive and definitely not official.

I thought all sports were mk1 1.3 base and sent to the dealer with the sport 'kit' inside.....? cant remember where i read that.

gunny
27-10-08, 06:36 PM
i thought they came as basically a sport but without the 40's fitted, you then sent your new sport off to have them fitted and set up, a sort of loophole to get past regulations/restrictions?

Sturge
27-10-08, 06:40 PM
It is a genuine sport, the sunroof was a dealer fit option, mine has one too.

The sport 'kit' was supplied in a box in the boot to the dealer where it was, or wasn't, fitted. Was done this way as it was the kit that was homologated, and that way it could be sold as a retro fit for existing rally cars

MK999
27-10-08, 06:57 PM
Just thought it was a bit strange to see a sunroof on one, and a quick google image search didn't turn up any sports with one, so I thought they might have said it was a sport on the program to help it along a bit, rather than say "basic mk1 nova".

Fair enough though, and the sports were supplied as sturge said bowman, so I'm guessing the kit was only sold to the public in/fitted to base mk1 white novas? Making these the 'genuine' sports?

Sturge
27-10-08, 07:22 PM
The sport was sold as a homologation model, in order for the Novas to compete in rallies with the twin 40's, bigger brakes etc a minimum of 500 had to be produced for the road. In effect it's a swing/sr evolution. It's based on a 1.2 swing shell with sr bits added to suit what was needed. As a way of meeting the homologation deadline they had to send them out as kits rather than complete cars, this allowed the retro fit, gave a rally inspired car in the showroom, and gave a car clubman competitors could go out and buy.

But obviously as they were sold in the showroom, dealer options were available, sunroof, radio, rear seat belts, parcel shelf. So not all of them remained 'original' as far as the base car came

Sloth
27-10-08, 09:30 PM
dont know if its true but i was once told that the car at the start of the vid isnt the same one as at the end, i.e different shell. apparently someone realised what it was and did miss henderson a swap for a white base model. then swapped the plates and vin etc.

Sturge

They sent the bits out in a box as homologation rules stated the car only had to be supplied with the parts, not fitted. This is why Alfa supplied their 156 with a huge wing spoiler in the boot ready to paint for the btcc homologation.

You might notice the Courtenay car in question on page 3 was A16V TB, not H16V TB ...

Another thing I might point out is that, Sports didnt all end up as rally cars, many were sold to the general public as a special edition or whatever. It's perfectly feasable for an aftermarket sunroof to be fitted.

Alright mate, what's the story behind this one? Know about map18w and a16vtb but not this, customer car etc?

Craig, did you take that pic? Must be more recent, looks like someone has chucked the courtenay gear for the regular c20let setup, what did they do with the induction hole in the inner wing?

Nick J
28-10-08, 10:35 PM
H 16v tb was built by courtenay for a customer of theres around the same time as A16v tb. And a few years later was sold to a guy who had it in storage for years until elgan bought it recently and started taking it to bits! I have the mag in which they and around ten other novas had a group thrash organised and featured by max power at the pod Im sure the pics are on here somewhere? IIRC courtenay used to re route the induction system and house the afm in the wheel arch with the air filter directly above it. Ive heard different opinions from various people on how this worked.... Im sure A 16v tb now has altered how courtenay originally did it too? Could be wrong though Im sure another old schooler will be able to clear this up!

novacabrio

the trash at the pod is on youtube

elgan
29-10-08, 10:04 AM
my air filter used to run into the wheel arch and the turbo had the outlet altered for it to run out at 90 degrees to the housing. (for sale by the way).

when i had the car this had been plated over and run under the slam panel though. I have the max power video and the max power magazine with it featured.

It was with the first couple of turbos made. featured in 1993!
