thinking about buying an hvlp compressor but all the ones I've seen suitable for spraying a car are all 110V industrial jobbies.

Anyone know how I go about converting it to household use?

Is it simply a case of getting a step down transformer?

They seem to have the round plub on the end...

Just pick up a transformer Ade, you can plug em directly into the mains :)

Aye, a step down tranny from 240v to 110v will do you just fine. Be sure to turn the tranny off after use, leaving them on for massivly prolonged timescales can make certain models of them overheat.

EDIT: Saying that, i was looking at compressors over the weekend in an Ex Catalouge clearance store, £48 for a 2.2hp 240v item!

If you are talking about HVLP spraying, no need to buy a special compressor you just need a decent regulator and one with good enough CFM.. I've got a boggo albeit 400 litre compressor and I use an external regulator and filter..

Dont want a compressor - I'm aiming for hvlp because the last time I sprayed a car with a comp the overspray/bounce back was horrendous! especially in a garage

I used an HVLP system a few yrs back and the results were excellent with hardly any overspray/bounceback. Saved a ton of paint.

Makes all the difference when using 2Pak...

As I'm sure you are aware HVLP just means High Volume Low Pressure.. HVLP is what is now the norm for conventional compresed air painting; you get minimal waste.. The electronic/hyrdostatic HVLP systems IMHO are a complete and utter waste of time, the finish is ****E.

I use 2k HS acrylic and a HVLP gravity gun.. I'm not a pro but I can get a bloody good finish with my amature skills :)
