View Full Version : nova on ebay
if anyone knows the owner of this car please explain to them that the way the seatbelts are mounted is extremely dangerous

That seems to be the way everyone thinks theyre sposed to be mounted, they fail to realise you should weld the brace inbetween the rear shock turrents if if wanna mount them there!
Fail!
Not even that but he's drilled them through the rear strut brace and so weakened it even more. Worst case senario, it'll snap.

lol how dangerous ehh Dod!
Personally, I'd never trust a rear strut brace for harness mountings, welded in or not! Its either bolt to shell, or bolt to a roll cage with a harness bar!

If he is using those mounts why didnt he just bolt them to the floor? Surely that would have been better?

The origional rear seat belt mounts would have been spot on.
the rear strut brace is only fit for a person to hang onto when being dogged from behind.
there is no structural integrity in it at all..... it won't do much for extra strength in the rear of that car as it is not tied into the cage at all. even the cage seems to mount funny & not onto the rear beam mounts or spring seat area

AFAIK those rear strut braces are not much use when bolted in anyway. Still give flex through the shock tops. Weld in FTW IMO!!

look at it this way...... the force in the rear damper is straight upwards... the brace would need to be a big X from the strut top to the roof rails to be any use at all. thus all rear strut braces in novas, bolted or welded, unless as part of a triangulated cage are useless. Period.

They are of use, just not much, they reduce vertical movement of the rear shocks. A weld in brace will just reduce horizontal chassis flex. But again, a cage will do this a lot better.

:( that told me!! lol
'just about every thing i have bought for this car has been brand new and all been fitted properly.'
Well, no-one is questioning it being brand new... lol

Not a good idea at all. My harnesses were attached to the rear brace (that was welded in) One day i was taking out my rear lights, sat on the brace and it snapped. Epic Fail.
what was it a bludy broom handle?? how can a rear brace snap
Use thin wall tube, drill several holes vertically in it, then stick a person on it, snap.........
whos dumb enough to use thin wall stuff??
