View Full Version : Vectra GSI
Just wondering if anybody knows much about the vec GSI?
I used to have a ST a few years ago (4pot) and always fancied a ST200 so i've settled for a GSI instead...
Its the last in the line of Cheaper tax cars and fuel is going back down again so meh :D
So any things to look for engine wise etc? Cheers? horror storys general faults you know the shizzle.

rust is a problem, door hinges and striker areas, buy a saloon for resale value, also the 2.5 is a better engine than the 2.6, more tuneable
usual vaux problems then, What are the engines like to work on... Never had anything more than a 4pot.

they are ok to work on there is not much room around the engine themain thing is check for oil in the water as this could be head gaskit or the oil cooler both a pain to do and check its had a cambelt i think it every 40k and the need serviceing every 10k i do mine every 5k as for fuel the not that bad i get 32mpg on average and 37mpg on a run
My brother had one, IMO very nice cars and ive worked on worse cars to work on.
Just as above, keep an eye out for rust and the obvious things like kurbing, tyres, exhaust, air con.
When i can get one without being killed for insurance will be a happy day.
cheers Lee, I'll give him a PM 2mrw.

Definetly want service history though, a mistreated v6 brings a hefty repair bill..
Bloody lovely cars though, couldn't fault mine atall. Fitting a ram air induction kit is a must though:thumbs:
Uncle has an MSD version, seems a really nice car although i've not really poked around it, been in it a couple times tho :)

MSD is the one to go for. Main difference is the 3ltr cams if i remember.
the 2.5 is a better engine than the 2.6, more tuneable
How come?
i thought all GSI's Were MSD?
i thought all GSI's Were MSD?
They are mate, just goes to show!
Ive had a couple love them, but they are juicy there is no denying it! Drive great from 4k onwards.
There getting on and like all desirable models the low mileage mint ones fetch a mint,
I prefer the MK2 Saloon's but thats personal taste, different bumpers, seats, steering wheel, 1 piece headlights etc.
The engines are pretty reliable but just service them regular and no probs, coil packs go down quite often (every one Vectra V6 ive owned has needed a coil pack!) and they are a bitch to change but only nuts and bolts and not as awkward as the omega one's lol.
Engine is the same as the SRi's but with G cams as found in the 3.0l omega's.
People will say that they have different managemnt etc but its myths.
VVOC is a great site and the people are friendly as fook.
Lots you can do to make them look that little bit extra too.
My black one as i bought it...
