Aye Evo spec, awesome motor! Not what i was expecting when it said barn find, the owner is well aware of what it is etc, TBH it looks like the 'barn' is reguarly used. It's not such a big deal, a seat on the GRP body and a bit of dust, yeah a car cover would have been nice but I wouldn't class it as wrecked as some on passionford were lol I'd even be happy with just the lamp pod lol

Ben
21-10-08, 01:50 PM
Yeah i agree, these cars were thrwon around forests at break neck speed, think this ones doing quite well tbh, yeah also agree a cover or carcoon would be a good buy but the longer it sits there the more its value goes up.

Its not like having something that was once a everyday thing that has got more valuable like a MK1 escort which everyone used to destroy, this was a seriously expensive weapon when bought so like you said he knows what hes got and is doing the right thing just maybe not in the right way according to the anoraks rule book!

A true enthusiast isnt bothered about how much theyre worth :thumb:

id rather own a rusty old nova sport than a mint rs200 anyday ;)

id propably just sell the rs200 and buy as many sports as i could find ;)

I had this discussion with a mate after he bumped into the oldest member on RSOC iirc he is, he owns a concours RS500 thats worth upwards of 30k i think.

Surely if the nova had the massive following that ford has then yes the nova sport would have the notoriety and value to match would it not?

I mean theyre similar in as much as they were both a limited run of around 500 for homologation reasons (hence RS500) so if it were the other way around then a sport would be in the same league would it not?

Similiar from that point yes. But a Nova Sport didnt lead to GM Opel creating an iconic 80's and 90's rally car that in Escort Form was pretty much unbeaten in early 90's rallying (until the Impreza appeared)

A Nova Sport also wasnt developed by Cosworth Racing, who incidently made late 70's and early 80's F1 engines :thumb: Oooh, an GM Opel didnt supply engines to the Le Mans race cars of the 80's either did they.

So, what heritige/racing pedigree does GM hold to its name that was put into the Sport? Erm, funk all to shout about really. As GM got hammered on the Grp A circuit prior to the Nova Sport, which IIRC only had about 3 class wins anyway?

A true enthusiast? AFPMSL! EVERYTHING has a monetary value! Enthusiast or not!! Whats saying I am a "true" enthusiast? Define a "true" enthusiast? What makes you king of the "true enthusiasts" lol

Spudly
21-10-08, 07:47 PM
Aye thats true, i didnt realise it was more than just a "following" that created the cars status it was the motorsport proving and history then, fair play i can has skooling lol

Mike
21-10-08, 07:48 PM
And whats worse, GM couldnt even build a car pulling enough horse to even think about entering Group B rallying! Shame on GM lol lol

Yeah they shouldve invented the LET a few years early and stuck it into an astra GTE or similar:thumb:

You may want to check the WRC leaderboard, the one and only time the Escort appears on there is in 1979 :p

The 205 blatted most of the group B cars; then when 4WD era dawned, the Delta reigned supreme until the Celica came along. After that the Impreza won once, then it was Lancers up til 2000.

[edit] I'm sure I recall seeing some crazy spec Astra rally car... I have a feeling GM were planning on getting Vauxhall/Opel into group B but were too late for the party

They did, but in 8v form in a Pontiac Sunbird 1800 & 2000 models, shame they were only market on the US market :thumb:

Sapphire Cosworth an RS500 took many a class win & manufacturer win in 80's though Jack. Where were all the Sports then?

The RS200 went tits up in Group B, as they couldnt over come techical issues quick enough, they also had mega running gear issues with them as they tried to use Capri Props, which, TBH are pap for 500 horse.

Astra 4S Jack, good when it worked. Thing is, when it worked lol lol

Are you serious? :eek::roll:lol

Aye as said, built by Reliant, but the Tickford connection comes from when Group B was scrapped and all of the would be rally cars and the spare parts they had lying were built into road spec cars.
There's loads of Sierra on them, most notably the rear lights and cut down doors IMO.

Today whilst on a forced tidying mission I found the info and price list etc for building a Banham 200, which I came close to acquiring when I was about 21 iirc  lol Banham seems to have gone under now? Wonder if he still owns the genuine RS200 tooling.

The Astra 4S was being built but got shelved when Group B was banned.
It was a 4WD Supercharged 2.4 Manta 400 engined Astra.

Shame GM tried to jump the Group B gravy train at the end of its life :D unlucky for them. And with only 340bhp ish (IIRC?) it was never going to be a winner. Did it even finish its first (and final!) event in '86 (AUDI Rally I recall?)

The clever and not so moral thing to do would have been to request a new log book from the DVLA and see if the current owner responds to the confirmation letter, if not FREE RS200 :D

lol ^ Only works if the car is abandonned and no breaking/entering is required to obtain it! As cool as it would be to hold the V5 for an RS200 the only way you could obtain the car would be by very underhand methods!

Well rust isnt an issue with the body then and the chassis etc shouldnt corrode to seriously going by the pictures. I remember seeing a few of these for sale in the Fast Ford mags a few years back, non Evo models for something small like 36k iirc. One day...

L14MNP
29-10-08, 11:25 AM
Aye, should stand up pretty well without too much TLC, I remember seeing a knackered 6R4 in the back of a rallycross mag for about 45K. Makes the RS a bargain lol
