Soon to have my Mk1 Nova, just a small thing of it doesn't have any rear sear belts. Just wondering if people have fitted them to their Mk1s? Are they hard to fit? Where would i get them from? And finally how much am i looking at? Cheers guys. Answers to the above greatly appreciated.

theres a thing in the haynes manual for drilling and fitting rear seat belts but the holes in the floor and rear sides might already be there. someone on here will defo have them like novarally http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104404&highlight=nova+rally :thumb:

lol, yeah funny having no rear seat belts. love to come across a pre 1964 mini, see what the police would think of that as it legaly doesnt need any seat belts haha

What year is your Nova mate?

When I took my interior out and headlining to do some work I found the threaded bolt location for the seatbelts plus the rear shelf had the slot for the belt to travel through too. I took off the boot side panels and there it was the area where the inertia reel is placed so it was all there.

Under the rear seat it also had the mount points for the latches and mines a 1985 hatch.

Just have a look when you get it will probably be there.

IIRC once you stick seat belts in the rear whoever sits there must wear them else Mr. Policeman may be pulling you over.

All the mounts are there. If you feel the boot piller at the point where they are normally mounted, underneath the headlining there is mounts at both sides.Use a flat screwdriver to put a hole over the mount. The lower mounts have plastic bungs in them.

If youre retro-fitting seat belts imho youre better off not fitting the center lap belt and only ever carrying three passengers, even in a 25-30mph shunt the lap belt will hold the waist to the seat but leave the upper half of the passengers body to fly forwards @ 25-30mph and can snap the spine leaving them paralysed from the waist down, so even in a crash that everyone should walk away from they might not/wont.

Ive removed or at the very least tucked it under the seat to make it useless/out of the way on almost all of my novas and refused to carry more than three passengers.

Just my input and something to mull over for ya!

And as for mot purposes iirc if its not there to test it cannot be failed on!

Not true. If you have a back seat and you're car is meant to have seat belts it will fail.

I used to run stripped out but left just the base of the rear seat in place and it failed.

Unless you convince the tester its a four seater only lol

Yeah i only ever carried 3 passengers before anyway. Hate having that many tbh. So prob wont fit a middle belt, but keep it spare for mot obviously then!

Tbh even if i were to have carried four passengers i wouldve rather the middle one not have the belt on than wear a lap belt but thats just me as i couldnt face knowing if we had a shunt and someone were left disabled that it would prob have been my fault!

PRE 1987 cars do not have to have any rear belts fitted.
Pre 1964 cars do not need any seat belts fitted.

but even on any of the above if seat belts are fitted they have to work
