ba5tard job that is. i think its position 2, ill find out for ya tho, and youll need a curved rod of something strong, think i used a wire coat hanger to make a tool to poke thru the extractor hole, which wasnt as strong as i needed it to be, but managed to get it out after fcuk ar5ing about for 10 mins. its all technique, no amount of pulling on it will make any difference.

yeah put your key in the ignition and i think it says position B actually? if you look closely anyway!

on the top side of the barrel you will see a hole, you need to push something fairly sturdy through there, it just depresses a little metal latch which holds the barrel in

i found a key for removing head units was best for me, but a coat hanger, mega paper clip, whatever, even a watch screwdriver

then just pull and it should slide out! i struggled with mine so give me a shout if u need any help

i must of been lucky when i done it i put a screw driver in and turned the key and it was out in under 10 seconds.

my main trouble was getting the damn thing to full slot back in, but it was because of my steering lock not being FULLY disendgaged, had to put a screwy down the barrel and push the steering lock completely down, then it slid in like a dream lol

Position II iirc then a 2.5mm allen key works fine, poke it in the teeny lil hole under the barrel and give it a wiggle/good push and the barrel will pop free:thumb:

Ive got two haynes manuals andy so ill bring one over for ya next weekend!

i found if you have it at position II then put the wire in and then turn it the key the full way round and giv it a slight pull it pops out no problem. i used to struggle for ages at them if i followed the haynes manual until i started doing this.

hi i know this is an old thread and very usefull :)

however, i have just bought a corsa b power steering column and it has no key, is there a way of getting this out so i can use the barrel from the nova column?

cheers

You will have to cut the sheer bolt off the steering lock to get the whole lot off.
The Nova lock and barrel will fit the Corsa column but it does sit at a different angle to the Nova lock so you will not be able to fit with the Nova shrouds without modding.
