Thinking of getting one done for my MK2. Has anyone got any pix of what theirs has turned out like? Whats your opinion of them? Are they worth doing or naff?

Cheers

personally I dont like them - I like sublte changes to the nova - something sleek but keeps the original feel of the design. Bad boy bonnets make the nova overly agressive and if driven agressively give the car a "neddish" look/feel (boy racer style). You'll may find you'll be challenged to races and if yer cars not up to it (engine wise) you could be left feeling a little washed out.

Looks wise there are some good ones. Many obscure part of the nova lights and it doesnt look right (again my opinion)

If you lower the car and stick a gsi bumper with splitter on it this makes the front agressive but in a more sporty feel - also in some parts of the country if your lights are obscured the police will pull you - this includes the eyebrows people use. I know 2 guys with bad boy bonnets and the eyebrows on the lights who are constantly getting pulled.

It depends on what attention your going for. If you think it looks good do it. photo yer nova and mod it on a oc before hand using a paint program

Why not (if not done so already) get a scoop or similar in yer bonnet?

Again my opinion (as you aksed for it)

I think i'm going to get one done.

Though i keep changing my mind, as i don't think it looks good from the side - the grille goes up and back at an angle, and extending the bonnet just seems to ruin the side profile. You can see the lip hanging over the headlight/grille...............there's just something that's not right about it.

But then again....it does look good if you've got an aggressive (jap style or whatever) kit on, if viewed from the front.

Sometimes i decide that it does in fact look better without one, and i'm just wanting to do it just for the sake of it!?

Looks good, I'm still not sure though. Will I still be able to unhatch the bonnet ok, or would i need bonnet pins?

I have fitted a Escort boot lock, latch and cable, it works a treat.

Well mine cost me a fiver  , because I did myself. I got the lock, latch and cable for free. It does seem a bit pricey for the work but I have seen some done for ?300-350 :o . But If you have got a mig and a spare bonnet have a go yourself.

Yeah Ant, you're bein' ripped off mate. Coollouvres have done loads of them and charge betweeen ?120 and ?180 all inclusive. Normally they do it 'while you wait' too.

To still be able to open the bonnet you need to cut a section out of your grille (the bit in front of the latch), but so it doesn't come lower than the extension (so you can't see it). Then you'll be able to get your hand under it to unlatch the bonnet.

That was including a boot pop as well. Any one know any good body shops in the south east, colchester/essex area?

A boot pop solenoid only costs a tenner max, and it's really easy to fit it.

Carsima.

I don't think it does Fester, because I'm sure that is Malc from Redline and his Nova GTE.

Matt :D

Matt's right. It's the gimp from Redline.

And i don't know what the fuck i was rambling on about at the start of the post - the bad-boyed motor in picture two is miles better looking.

So that's what i'm getting.

I'll post pictures when my car's done. Or at least re-sprayed. It'll look good, but i'm not taking it as far as Matt and/or DJP_Y2K. I'll save that for something that might hold it's value better. (Plus i keep spending my hard earned on designer lingerie for my sexy lady).

Cool Marty you say about holding it value, how many do? I will prob never part with the Flying Machine(unless the offer was good). It's like Jamie Shaw never would part with the R5 GT Turbo.

i dont read any of those magazines any more theyre just shite

Matt - i just meant it makes more sense to spend ten grand on a car that cost that in the first place, rather than one that cost a tenth.
Plus even though i want to take the nova as far as i can, i'm already dreaming of rx7's and the likes, and the more i do to/spend on the nova, the less i'll have for the next car.

Oh and Jamie Shaw reputedly sold the R5 for around ?40,000!!

The only way you can get decent money for something like that, is if you build 'the best, one of a kind, and it's restored to almost brand new condition' and is featured in a magazine, preferably front cover.

Well, anyway, i'm doing mine in 3 stages, so if i do or don't decide to take it to the limit, it'll never be left 'unfinished'. Although it will end up taking a lot longer, and probably cost more. But i can't do with having to have the car off the road for over six months or whatever.

Oh and having it vandalised almost daily doesn't help either (aspecially when i use it daily and it's kept on the street).
