Good afternoon peoples, check ya bad self

I want to build a 2 or 3u rack mount pc to go in my rack along with amps, limiters, compressors, eq's blah blah

This is the case i will use (unless anybody knows of a better alternative?)
http://www.xcase.co.uk/p/595645/pc-c32b-aluminium-black-htpc-case-no-psu---free-delivery.html

What sort of motherboard could i use?

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?MBB-A422M

And would any PSU work?

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?TT-W0117

Also what else would be needed? I only want literally WinXP and my choice of DJ software. Sound cards are not a problem as ill be using cd players this is purly to use the music off of the pc.

How would i go about setting up 2x500gb HDDs so they are a back up of each other?

This needs to be like the most reliable pc evar so anything that would help? :thumb:

That all looks pretty compatible. Not sure on the PSU but then our rackmount cases at work are all big things with large PSUs, no desktop size cases there.

and LMFAO @ check ya bad self :p

Motherboard depends on what processor you go for..

power supply depends on what you stick in the box, but in general an average core2duo gaming pc will need a 500w psu as a minimum....

You could set the hard drives up in a RAID mirroring mode, but if the psu goes bang you risk losing everything connected to it (ie both drives), so best off doing regular back-ups to an external drive if it's for stuff that you can't replace....

Power fails usually only lead to O/S or current file corruption, I've recovered my dad's PC umpteen times from power fails using a linux boot disk and/or windows cd. Only time I've seen an entire filesystem get trashed was due to a physical hard drive fail, and even then I managed to restore pretty much all the data off it.

Still always worth backing data up though to an external source.

[edit] If you want reliability, go for Linux. I don't like using RAID arrays on XP anyway, but Linux is a more stable O/S imo.

The recommended configuration is:
PIV 3 GhZ computer

4.1 DirectX compatible soundcard (with front and rear separate outputs)
1024 MB RAM
200 MB free on the hard-driveThe recommended configuration to mix video is:
Dual Core 2 GhZ CPU
ATI or nVidia video card w/256Mb of Dedicated DDR3 memory (dual output capable)

I'm not currently up on AMD processors and boards, but the X2 4200 is a fairly low spec model afaik, any reason for going for an AMD rig?

The specs say that case will take a full-atx size motherboard, and it looks like it's actually a bit bigger inside than my cm330 elite, you could probably fit a high-end gaming rig into it.

Doe's any of the software you'll be using actually take advantage of multi-core processors? If so, it might be worth-while building around an intel core-2-quad processor if your budget allows.

Edit, it looks like my current rig would be good match against those specs,

Intel E2160@ 3Ghz
Gigabyte P35-ds3l motherboard (7.1ch HD audio with digital in and out)
4GB DDR2-6400 (800Mhz) memory
Radeon HD3450 256mb graphics card

Is linux freeware?
Yep, well open source. If it doesn't say its linux compatible you can download a windows emulator like WINE
