Did a bit of work over the weekend on Dan's Nova.
Sold Dan a GSI smoothed front bumper(at a loss!), got it painted along with the rear .

Update
Dan's been wanting bike carbs on his Nova for sometime now, so with a few days off this week we set to it.

I had a SE head, this was stripped, cleaned, inspected.
It needed new guides, so these were fitted, then measured the head height versus the height of the standard head, cc'd the chambers in the head and pistons and took 30thou of the SE head, this got the compression up a good bit but not excessively so.

Head on
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w195/tomreid/Bikecarbs%20and%20manifolds/novahead.jpg

with manifold
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w195/tomreid/Bikecarbs%20and%20manifolds/novscarbstango.jpg

Dan's CBR 600carbs were not up to the job as they work by being gravity fed with fuel, not pressurised with a pump, we did fit them and they ran, but in the end we decided that a fuel tank on the roof above the windscreen was not really on, would be asking plod to tug himlol
So the trusty R1's were used.

We made an alternator bracket using the standard item and adding a bit, it mounts off of the top two head studs nearest the alternator
The temp switch was fitted to the thermostst housing and the wire lengthened.
we did get a bit carried away when filming the start up, Dan wanted to see the pwetty flames coming out of the exhaust ports.:cuckoo:
Vid will be up soon

Well then, get yer **** down here tommorrow, were going to be tuning the carbs/timing, so you can make the tea/coffee, weld in the bung for the lambda sensor, keep the central heating going, make the tea/coffee, drill out/change the various jets, go to the shops for the world famous Tesco's chocolate filled croissants, only a quid each!, we'll need at least 8, sweep the floor, oh, and did i mention make the tea and coffeelol lol lol
Me, i'm supervising!

Whay do you need a lambda sensor?

yes, 1200 bottom end and 1400SE head.
New elec fuel pump and filter king.
Why you ask?

The wideband LS gets fitted so that I can monitor the AFR's using the innovate kit.
As it turns out I've been itching to do this to an XE, but no contenders as yet, can see me doing it to my own car, lol.

I used a 1400 SE head as that is the only manifold I get made for the 8v engine, I did skim a lot off the head to get the slight compression loss back, and made some.
I could get a manifold made for your head, same cost as others, or can you source one?.

I used this pump.

Need to get some new thin hose clips to tidy up the installation and some longer fuel resistant pipes between carbs and manifolds, this will help with alternator clearance issues.
Alternator brackethttp://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w195/tomreid/DSC00708.jpg

Wow, very interested in doing this myself to my 1200. Does anyone know of any 600s with pump fed fuelling, I dont really want to be messing around with jets in some R1 carbs, plus they're rather pricey these days.

And anyone know of any carbs with 32 or 34 mm jets.

hey great car and ewsome sounding looks like a job well done :thumb:

glad i read this post as i nearly went a bought the 600carbs there lol as theres a few sets on ebay for around the 40 quid mark as im really intrested in doing this as well would like to find out as much as possible as mines is a standard 1.2 carb just now so should have to worry much about the timing set up just not sure of jet sizes needed etc or which bike carbs are gravity fed or pressure fed thanks

well lads i want to put bike carbs on my standard 1.2l carb engine. can u use gravity fed carbs by using the fuel pump on the engine beacuse i dont know much about electric stuff.what would be good carbs to use. are they easy to set up? thanks any help welcome :) :thumb:

matt_vaughan

Pump fed carbs are needed I think.

Looking round for the ideal donor bike carbs at the mo to go on my 1.2

30-01-09, 05:11 PM
someone on here is selling some zxr9 carbs saw it in a forsale ad. Use the bike fuel pump and run it off the ignition live... blank of the mech pump mount. I doubt the mech pump will supply enough fuel or pressure. could be wrong lol

Yes, its quick enough to beat a std 1400 SR on accelaration and thru the mid range, the gearing has been adjusted though, so it's quick off the line.

matt_vaughan
14-02-09, 09:00 PM
Tom I'm after some info about slapping some bike carbs on mine soon.

Mine will be 1300 SR engine, Kent Cam, 4 Branch, so should be looking at carb setup similar to yours. Although I dont really want to fork out way over 100 quid for a set of R1 carbs. You know of any others that will do the trick? And what jet sizes did you use in the R1 carbs?

tom reid
14-02-09, 09:38 PM
Sorry, I have no experience of other carbs, although I'd think that R6's might do the trick, a few tuners around my area swear by them for small engines.
I don't think the jet sizes i use will be relevant to your engine, but I'd start somewhere around 140 see how you get on.

matt_vaughan
14-02-09, 09:40 PM
Cheers Tom. Ball park figure of 140 should get me started thanks. Going to be putting some R1s on an XE soon so will get the hang of tuning them before putting some on mine.

The bike carbs have been taken off , as has the manifold, elec fuel pump, etc, the original std head's been stripped, cleaned, rebuilt and fitted.
