I couldn't think of anything else for the title lol .

1300 8v carb engine here, and I need some questions answered. The engine feels quite lazy at high rpm, mainly 2nd and 3rd gears. (In 2nd, the engine seems quite lean/lazy as I enter high revs, so change to 3rd and theres more power).

Is that the nature of the engine? Or does it need tuned/adjusted?

The engine came from an Astra mk2. Its kept very well serviced, runs with no smoke or anything like that. Its a standard engine apart from a K&N, 4-1 manifold and cherrybomb rear exhaust (yeah ok chavvy). Also running a Corsa B 5 speed box, I presume this is same as SR gearbox?

Any ideas? Or is there nothing to worry about? Cheers.

When the power starts dropping away at high revs its because you can't physically get anymore air into the engine. Only way to improve that is to spend money on the inlet, head and camshaft.

Ah right ok, yeah it feels like its a little strangled.

What setup would you suggest for this engine, keeping in mind its a road car?

I'd just get the head well ported, a mild cam (kent as2? Piper 285?) and a 32/34 webber carb.

Cheers, can get pretty much anything off a 1200 carb engine aswell, would it be worth taking the head from that, maybe play around modfying it? Then use it with a high lift cam when the time comes?
