At the moment im driving a mk4 astra sport 1.6 16v (ins group 6), as i'm in the process of sorting the niggles out on it before i sell it, i thought id swap my insurance onto my project (to use untill i get a new run around)
with my project being a nova 5dr 1.4i luxe+ (ins group 5) i would have presumed that the premium would have been around the same if not cheaper.
just rang them up (swinton) and to transfer it they want an extra £1,047 ontop of the hefty premium i'm paying already:confused:   and the kind girl also stated that in any sort of claim the nova would be written off due to its age!!!
really dont know where some insurers get their price's from.

Yeah they will write it off, as it will cost more than the cars value to fix in an accident. They probably loaded the premium because of this? I'd get another quote and compare. How long does your policy have left to run?

just get used to it (because i have) insurance companys make their mind up as they go along, if you get someone in a good mood your get cheaper insurance and visa versa so just keep tryign untill you get a quote your happy with!
If you make changes to a policy mid term, you're basically giving the insurance company a free chance to fcuk you over.

amen!i was with swinton insuring a mk3 astra gsi and when i rang up to change it over to a 106 gti she said "yeah i'll just change it over for you" so i asked how much it was(thinking £40 admin fees or whatever but a reduction in my overall premium)and she said "its 1270 on top of what your paying now! !".so i just told her to cancel it!she even had the cheek to suggest me getting a 1.0 clio or corsa!lol
im with Ecar now and find them very reasonable.

And the fact the Astra has an immobiliser as standard, where as old cars like Nova's/Escorts/Rovers etc are easy pray for car theifs to nick, joy ride and then weight in for scrap.
True, although factory fit standard immobilisers/alarms etc are taken into consideration when picking the insurance group rating.
I would have expected a 106 GTi to be considerably more to insure than an Astra GSi though, group ratings aside.

Aye, 130bhp 1.6 v's 150bhp 2.0.
Things is, 106 GTi's have really good keypad immobilisers, but pish easy to disconnect!
