Right then, what we need is a list if all the varients throughout the life of the Nova.

Mines easy, Nova Mk1 GTE, 1.6i, F13. So if yours is different add it to the list below starting with mine. On the other hand is someone knows where a list already exists, post the link. We need all the limited editions like Flair, antibies etc...........

So here we go

Nova Mk1 (G reg) GTE, 1.6i, F13/5 speed

might be worth saying if its an f13cr/f13wr

Good Idea, though all GTEs were F13cr but had a higher final drive ratio then the smaller SR (3.74:1 instead of 4.18:1)

gtes have lower ratios than sr's including the final drive!

Blimey this gearbox thing runs and runs lol.
Its all very confusing cos all F10 or F13 parts are interchangeable.
Generally, F10's are for the smaller range 1.0l upto some of the 1.4s depending on age. F13's are for most of the 1.4's and all the 1.6's. The 1.6's tend to have the wide ratio box with a short FD (4.18) (F13/5W).1.4's have the close ratio box and 3.94 FD.
Apart from counting teeth you can spot the F13W cos you wont get anything like full revs in 5th and 4th is usually faster. Plus the gap between 3 -4th is noticeably different.

Before i changed it, my car was originally:

MK2 H reg 1.4SR 1389cc 14NV engine F13/5CR FD 3.94:1- box stamped F10 ( I counted all the ratios)

This wasn't the reason for this post, but I'm sat here with the original "Vauxhall" press release paperwork and it says, and I quote "The GTE features a 5 speed close ratio gearbox" the C14SE had the standard WR F13. all E/C16SE s were CR (GTE/GSi).

Though I will admit it is a lower ratio at 3.74:1

Dare I say this but I double-checked this in the Haynes manual and it agrees with Vauxhall this time...

We were going by what haynes said but MC smelt a rat cos he had compared top speeds in various gears of different cars. Summink wasn't right and basically we felt that the 1.6 gear boxes that we were using weren't CR boxes. So we took both 1.6's out, 1 a GSI and the other a GTE (both C16SE )and counted the teeth:

first = 3.55:1, 2nd =1.96, 3rd =1.30, 4th =0.89 and 5th =0.71.
The final drive was 4.18:1.

We then compared these to 2 1.4SR (14NV) gearboxes (H and J platers):

first= 3.55:1, 2nd = 2.24, 3rd =1.48, 4th = 1.12 and 5th =0.89.
The final drive was 3.94:1.

All these boxes were std original unaltered boxes.
I think Vaux swapped the internals about without changing the published specs as they got into the production runs. Maybe they thought that the 1.6 with its extra power would be able to torque its way OK between wider gear ratio's and that peeps would have wanted an economy cruise low revving 5th gear?

To make our cars give a better more sporty feel we swapped the 1.4cr clusters into the 1.6 boxes and added the 4.18:1 CW & P. It works out great!

i agree

my 1400 sr box is CLOSE ratio - with the 3.94 cwp F10 btw

only the sri and 1600's had F13 all others were F10

the early 'close ratio' boxes used standard ratio's with 4.18 cwp

Well there you go then, can't argue if you've counted the teeth.... Still all the documentation I have says the above :? Still it gets up to 110 easily enough and has more to go ( no more track).

Still the point of this thread was to get some general list together of what car had what from the factory, 'cos I don't know....

it says on the end casing mate
should be stamped, mine is C3.94 or summot like

meaning close ratio - and 3.94 final drive

its either C or W(wide ratio) , 3.74,3.94,4.18 iirc
