As the title suggests, I paid a visit to Jamsport in Northampton at the weekend and have finally got around to reporting on the outcome.

I phoned Mark a week or so ago to ask if they could squeeze me in for a power run at any point and he suggested I tagged on the end of a mk3 Astra rolling road day on Saturday. I turned up and sure enough they had finished and got my car on the rollers. I said to Mark and Jamie that I was happy for them to make any tweeks if they thought it would help and Jamie proceeded to go into a full on mapping session! :D I hadn't pre-booked and Jamie gave up his time freely, top guy and I think somewhat addicted to perfection. I think they are very reasonably priced too!

Anyway, after mapping the DTA for quite some time they handed the car back with some pleasing figures, but more importantly a totally different car to drive. The mapping is so good now that it feels almost factory with a solid cold start, smooth idle and perfect part throttle manners. It's made a huge difference to my opinions of the ITB'd baby XE. :thumb:

Results:

155bhp @ 6866rpm
134lbft @ 5466rpm

Whats very interesting is the torque curve is very flat with around 110lbft at approximately 2.5k rpm.

For ref: x16xel with 4-2-1 manifold and system and Jenvey ITB's and DTA.

I am very happy with the car and more so with the excellent job done by Jamsport. :thumb:

Don't need to strip it out as I don't have the extra dead weight associated with a big block! :thumb:

All I know is that the 'Mk3 Astra Owners Club' were there with twenty or so cars and had left by the time I arrived.

Yeah it does look like Simons peering in the bonnet of that white escrote.

I didn't see Chip there, sure I'd recognise him.

I did see something blue with a LET in it and vaguely remember seeing a green mk3 Astra too. The rest were sadly Fords.

Get some headwork, and 288 cams :)

Why should I take the advice of someone that is quite clearly making a very poor engine choice, especially when you get results like these from the baby XE lol .

It is very tempting to mod away as I already have the cams and can get the pistons pocketed very cheaply, but I love the balance of driveability Vs performance that it has now. I also have access to CP's for the adrenaline rush.

Get just as good gains on a man sized engine.
Just think, if you have tb'd etc a 2L you could have a RR result of 190bhp now :p

lol

True, pocket would be lighter and car would be heavier too!

Adam

The car would be about 25kg heavier(fook all)
and you'd have the extra torque/power to tow that weight around :p

ANYWAYS, back on topic lol

Whilst on the subject, has anyone got a rr graph for a standard 20XE?

And Adam, would you be up for visiting a weighbridge before and after the transplant? It would be nice to know the actual difference rather than just speculate.

Actuallly, that sounds like a plan. Need to find a friendly weight bridge.
Ive seen a rr graph knocking about somewhere, will have a lookie

Good man, I'm happy to contribute to the cost of using a weighbridge.
