View Full Version : My new brakes
Just spent today being blown around my close, fitting my new discs and calipers.... 288mm vented Xdrilled Vectra discs and Vectra V6 calipers (New!) I got them from Auto-Vaux in Leeds, mailorder. 01924-376003
Had to go up to 16" wheels though......
Give them a try for anything Vaux, Gen GM parts as well :D[/img]

Is it you Dave?
Yeah, they FIT under 15s but if you need to put balance weights on the inner rim they wouldn't be able to turn...., LOL. I had 15" Softstars (now for sale) and it was less than 1mm gap! Still the 16s look sweet, as do the brakes :D
yep i run same spec, not bad at all.
I've just fitted some new brakes aswell. I was tempted to go for the V6 Discs and Calipers, but I couldn't really afford them. I had some Astra GTe Discs and calipers, so I replaced the discs with Vented and grooved discs and I bought some green stuff pads. I can already feel a massive improvement. I'm still bedding them in, but they should be more than capable of stopping the Nova.

Yeah, they look mental under those 15's Dave! The whole car looks tons better with the 16's on. Much more aggressive!
Yeah, though there's a lot of travel in the pedal. This is because the piston is masive..... needs more fluid to move the piston forward, though this means I'll be able to feather the brakes that much better once they're nicely bedded in.
just a note to make, but you say u need to move pedal alot b4 they work......
a mate of mine had a similar prob with his gsi with v6 brakes fitted, think he got a garage to mod something, i dont think it was entirely down to the cylinders being bigger!!!
Im a hydraulic engineer by trade, but not 2 clever on brakes, but wot i know is that on hyd units, u have a low cartridge which controls the flow of oil throug the sysem. ther are various types of cartridges, depending on how much flow u want, do brakes have this sort of system?
Cheers Dicko, I'll ask the lads next time I'm in the Dealership. They'll adjust it for free if it's a quick job. But it does mean I have some feathering of the brakes, rather than going through the screen every time I touch them.... :?
theres a linkage attached to pedal that can be adjusted cant remember exactly andy bishop knows though
i always thought that excessive pedal travel after upgrading yer brakes was down to you possibly needing a bigger brake servo (that black disc that lives in the engine bay on the bulkhead) - or air in the pipes...
:?
Ade is quite correct, this is the proper solution though I'll see how it goes and get used to them first :D
