Hey, i'm 17. Been driving for a month or so and want to get a 1.3 Nova SR. My current company won't insure me as they say a Nova is a classic car lol

But anyway...anybody know of a good insurance company for a young driver? Although any company name would help - i'll get a quote from any.

My mates 17 and is with adrian flux and they have sorted him out with his Nova, so just wondering if anybody else knows of some hidden gems?

Cheers.

I did that to start with, and my current company came up on that as the cheapest. Rang em up and they said it's a classic car...
Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation.

Not once have I ever had a decent quote from a compare site, I always found it cheaper to go direct to the insurer lol

Elephant and Admiral are ok, Tesco but the car may be too old. Flux give discount for PNG club members.

How much is the discount to PNG members?

Jack

15%

[edit] So if your policy is more than ~£100, after the discount you've got your membership fee back plus some!

Try Bell Dan. Was actually contemplating fronting my insurance it was that ludicrous (none over 2 grand) then a lad at Norwich Union told my mum to ring bell (NU didn't have a chance was over 3 grand anyways) and they quoted me 1300 quid. Got my test on thursday and the quote is saved till 16th so kinda need to pass cause I know it will fly up knowing my luck.

By the way, standard 1.2 Nova Luxe.

My first car was a Peugeot 205 1.4xs and i payed just over £1000 tpft. Ring around and get some quotes. Theres no hidden gems really, just be honset and avoid, if you can, going on your parents insurance. Might save you money in the short term but no ncb in the long term. :)

Feck me, I've never paid more than £600 to insure any car! And still wouldn't want to pay more than that now!!

Had to put up with some sh!tters for a few years though, namely a fiat uno for a year and then a 1.2 nova hatch for a couple years after that lol

Basically, £15 saved per every £100 the premium is then lol

Are you sure? Pretty certain Flux don't insure under 19's now.

Use one of your parents as the 1st driver and go with Direct Line... and if you carry on with them in the second year you will get the years no claims....

thats what i might be doing...

Fronting, ace :tard:

Second driver NCB may not be honoured as full NCB by another insurance company btw. My cousin found that out after being insured for two years on my aunt's car, then trying to get her own policy - the only company who would honour the NCB was Direct Line, and they were comparitively expensive.

Danio_MarshyMan
03-11-08, 03:15 PM
but once you have done the 1st year and carry on with direct line in the second you'll have a no claims, and after that year you'll have 2 (if you dont crash) so even if they dont honour the 1st year there is always the second...

Thats what i might be doing mate with directline when i got some money, with my own policy its 1500, with my mum as the policy holder with 5yrs no claims its 700ish and il get ncb protection incase i do have a crash to stop her looseing it

Yeah she does now but she might be selling her car as she might be starting work a couple hundred yards away from my house lol, and wont need it/use it alot, so she might insure my car and if/when she needs to pop out in tht, just for like shopping and **** :P

As Burgo said, No Claims Bonus can only be used on one car at a time (having said that, a handful of companies will "mirror" your NCB if you insure more than one car with them - I put that in quotes as it tends to be a small discount rather than full NCB discount).

So, for example, if your mum has her own car which she uses he NCB on, she can't then insure your car in her name and use her NCB on that. Also, if mum has her own car and is also insured on a nova with junior on as a second driver, to the insurance company that smells fishier than a sweaty fishmonger on a hot day and points to fronting.

On top of that, most insurance companies also require that the main driver has to be the one who has their name on the V5.
