check the air or water temp sensor.
what car/engine?
Its a Nova Sri with a 1.4 bottom end and 1.6 injectors.

has this problem just started or has id been ok before?
Well we have only had it running a few times, as it had a transplant, so i wouldnt be able to say.

so your using the 1.4 SRI ECU? or the 1.6?
Well it originally had a 1.6 corsa engine in it and i dont no what ecu it will be using now. I will have to ask him and let you no!

if its a 1.6 ecu with 1.6 injectors on a 1.4 block, its no wonder its not idleing properly. itl be over fueling to the max.
if its a 1.4 SRI ECU with 1.6 injectors its still probably going to be over fueling.
lol
The joys of cars. Thanks for that.
Why are you using 1.6 injectors on a 1.4?
Why are you using 1.6 injectors on a 1.4?you never played gran turismo?? uprated injectors give you more power:roll:
Ahhh ok silly me thought it would make the car run too rich, decrease mpg and cause problems with air/fuel mixtures.
Ok i get the point on tuned turbocarged cars which are burning twice as much fuel but on a 1.4sri? I could just be missing something obvious lol
Thanks for the sarci comments, but thats the engine he has replaced it with, i only asked for abit of help but maybe i shouldnt have bothered!
Thanks!!!

tears are running down the cheeks of meritlover. :(
In all honesty i would be asking serious questions as to why, wasnt really aimed at you but i would imagine the person fitting it knows at least something. IMO you are seriously going to have issues with the car with an engine like that, what else has been done to it?

Not aimed @ meritlover!
.....they have turned from salty tears of sadness to sweet tears of joy :D

Does that warrant as sarcy now?
Nothing it has just had another engine put into it as the other was goosed!

the ECU and injectors need to match the engine and loom of the 1.4

As said, the 1.4 injection engine found in the SRi's are problematic, so much so i would say they are the most problematic nova engine.

Right, the car has a 1.4 bottom end from a carburettor mk2 astra and a 1.6 Nova gte head, cam, injectors ecu etc, all from the same car.
The car ran fine when there was no water in it as it was moved a few times.
I finished the hoses yesterday and filled the car up with water, and now it wont idle properly when it gets warm. I thought this could be somthing to do with the coolant temp sensor.
Is there any way of checking this apart from getting a new one?
Oh and thanks for the sarcastic comments, she was only asking a question FFS!
I would say its a bad earth somewhere.

so...what ECU is this running a 1.6 i assume seeing as the 1.4 was carb'd?

i did....it wasnt clear to me from your wording....so i asked again.
as said a 1.4 engine being told what to do by engine managment from a car thats 200cc bigger hasnt got a chance, and if its a GTE/GSI ECU its a wonder it runs at all.
for instance, a 10% reduction of idle speed valve on a 1.6 engine will have FAR greater effect on a smaller engine, as will any other compensation change, whether it be IAT,ECT or battery voltage.
hence the likely cause of the problems as the engine conditions change, i.e warm-up.
coolant sensor can be checked with an ohm meter across the terminals or measure the voltage across it with the ign on.
you also should have 5v from one pin to ground, and 0ohms from the other pin to ground

ok, thanks for that.

Or just renew the sensor. Atleast visibly check it for signs of corrosion. Buff up the probe on the back of it so the brass is bright & shiny.
