It's also possible that it's just off the road and the current owner hasn't bothered to sorn.

Do you have a black Astra coupe?

Not necessarily, both mine were in decent condition when I sold them, and I know the hatch was crashed at least twice before finally being scrapped. The saloon I'm not sure about, but it comes up with an error message when I try it on the DVLA site - H578 YOU I think it was.

Unlikely, especially one thats 3 months overdue - the DVLA are pretty quick on sending out those £80 fines.

Problem is this tool is only for checking car tax, so doesn't reflect if a car has been scrapped or not. Would be handy if it did, although I guess you can get HPI checks quite cheap now which should tell you if a car has a scrap marker on it...

does this mean it is neither taxed or sorn??

Thats only if the person has actually ticked the scrapped box and not just sold it to a paddy for £20 and hes weighed it in without any paperwork.

I just went to sorn my car just now as it would have run out end of this month, and it came up there's been a gap in tax/sorn since 10/2005! but i've sorned it every year, never had a fine yet though, phoned up dvla and the guy just said send a letter explaining whats happened!

Yes it does as it would come up as SORN NOT DUE if it were sorned so get it done bud if its yours, you can do it on the same site all you need is the reference number from your V5:thumb:

Are you sure the new owners weren't just trying to remove your exterior 'additions' mate? (if I'm thinking of the right car) lol :thumb:

Youre a lucky boy then as ive had the dvla chasing me up for "failiure to tax" fines on three different cars, all of which had been scrapped and V5`s sent off with the "scrapped" box ticked aswell!

I thought the computerized car tax database has only been up and running for the past couple of years, so any before that they'd have to chase manually. Could explain some of the anomalies such as a car appearing untaxed for a period before 2006 maybe

Limp, no, the buyer was more than a little bit excited over the exterior "additions". In fact, he added his own since then. PIMPIN' lol

lol propa bo!
I have had a car SORN for over four years now, so I must be a manual customer, but I'm a good lad and renew it when need be. The nazi's at the DVLA will have a heart attack when I go to tax it lol

Jack
07-10-08, 11:50 AM
Nope, that'll be computerized, so long as you renew the SORN each year as required. I meant any fcukups in the data or people who'd skipped tax/SORN before then would be chased manually.

I get a letter of them every couple of months now for cars from yesteryear, i think they think im the DVLA cashcow and the *******s keep beating it.

Have asked them and pleaded for them to give me a list of car in my name so i can tell them if there still alive or mine but they refuse, too much like easy money.

I think the DVLA do a great job at doing a crap job tbh. :p
