general, I think there is actually more metal between the struts on the saloon than on the hatch. I once met a blokey who rallied a saloon in the astra/nova challenge in the eighties, & he reckoned the saloons were way more rigid than the hatch.....................

Yeah, someone makes them with plates at either end, which you bolt between the turrets, and then can weld around the plates if you want...

Proper weld in is the only way to do it!

Noticed the difference even driving down a stright road.

The saloons have a metal bulkhead welded in behind the rear seats, which would do pretty much the same job as a rear strut brace, although most people chop it out when stripping the car.

I'm pretty sure all but the 1.0 saloons were also fitted with rear ARBs as standard, where as only the "sporty" hatchbacks got them.

not welded in, but does have the plates either end.

I'm sure the floor plan and bits are the same on the hatch/saloon, up to the spare wheel well then theres the bit added in, you can see its just spotted in place. Then they add in the backing bit to where the seats are. So i can see that the turrents would be any different.
