View Full Version : Pressed plates (these ok we think?)...
Gonna treat the calibra to a new set of plates - cant be bothered with black and silver altho I like them! (and being pulled pretty much guarenteed) - do people think these pressed standard font and colour plates would be passable?

They look correct font, have reflective back and are the right colour so I would guess the chances of being pulled for them are pretty slim?
Black Backing and silver writing FTW. As for being stopped, dont worry about the Cops, they're really only there as a sort of Suggestion anyway.

Pressed black and silver was my first idea (its a black car - so would look classic) - but coppers round here are pretty hot on gettin that easy 30 quid....
Thats also what I want for my Beemer and as its Green I may pass as an Army Vehicle. Not likely but maybe... lol

Possibly, a few laps round the local field for that 'camo' effect and off you go.... lol
I'm gonna try that. lol

Sod it - just bought some pressed standard colour plates!
Those plates in the original ebay link, wrong font and no seller postcode - so not legal plates. If you want legal metal ones, go to Dubmeister.
Thinking of plates - I want a new front one for the celica, small one. I did find a place online that can do a small but legal plate (i.e. standard font, but with the minimum 10mm border), and I can't remember where the heck it was... any ideas?
I know theyre not strictly legal, but Im banking on them not being too obvious to get me unwanted attention. The font isnt far off, standard spacing and they have reflective backing - I'll jus have to stick them on and see!

the pressed ones aren't that legal. they might be in germany, but they won't have the bs mark

some do just not german style ones you can get ones with the correct font and reflective cover with a bsau mark
With regard to the seller postcode/details, just say you had them made ten years ago. Ask them to prove otherwise.

unless you have owned the car for more than 10 years, it would be a fairly easy pnc check......

i was looking into the legal "dub style" plates...Deffor think it would add a euro-touch, cant say i have seen many a nova with them style plates... I know you have to show a whole bunch of information to get them though..

Or they were on the car when you bought it. You aint gonna get done for it. Non-compliance with lettering and background yes.
I believe that as of November it will be illegal to sell plates that don't conform to regulations.
dub's pressed plates are totaly legal. £30 a pair, they have the post code and BSau markings on them. looks smart on my mates beemer lol. not sure how they'd go on the front of a nova as i does not have a flat apeture to mount the number plate...
what ck said ^
lol so after 11/08 the law will stop you and check the bottom of your plates for a makers post code? I can see that happening tbh

No, they should do that now. The new law stops places selling number plates that don't conform - so essentially, rather than stop people for having illegal plates (which they do now, unsuccessfully it would seem) they're going after the people who make them. Makes sense really.
Got ya. It probably stems from an episode of cars. cops and criminals I saw where they were moaning about the 'show plate' companies basically saying it gives everyone the chance to 'ring' cars. A tad extreme IMO lol

They certainly wont be stopping everyone checking for the corect postcodes etc, as otherwise 90% of the country would have to have new plates made up overnight!
