So, with a Nova a near 100% certain option for the future, just wondering what CD players people have bought recently...if any. :)

Also a general question - if i bought one at say halfords would you expect them to have everything in stock for a Nova i.e. the correct connectors or what ever is needed. Not that hot on ice and that general area. :)

Any responses/answers appreciated. Thanks.

Just what fits your budget and requirements. If there was a headunit in the car already it's just a straight swap and Halfords would need a good excuse to charge you for additional bits, cause they're not required.

if youre getting a mk2 then the untis will swap over no probs using the standard ISO conenctor. However some of the MK1's (like mine) didnt have and ISO so I had to get one and splice the wires in. Easiy enough with a haynes.

Your other option is ebay - loads of second hand stereo's on there - most arent stolen either lol

Panasonic headunits. Dont seem to date or knacker out as quick as Kenwoods & Pioneers.

I'm an Alpine man myself, but quality costs.

As for wiring, just run fresh wires. Its quite easy to do

Got a pioneer headunit in my current car, about 5 years old and much better than what any of my friends have got! I quite like Alpine stuff but just think it's more of a name you're paying for. I would have a quite big budget for a cd player, if it's just got all orignal in i guess i'd need everything for it. Maybe costing more?

Guess i'll try out ebay see what sort of deals can be found. :)

Alpine's my first choice, but you get a lot for your money with JVC.

had a sony in mine since was 17 with single gold plate RCA (most are silver now unless pay £250ish for one, poo).

Got a new Sony in my MG and bought sony for my skyline as mates go through the dreaded ear, a ken's wood very quickly! Avoid goodmans unless it's to just sell the car with!

Alpine are good if you don't get budget one's £150 min spend on them n should last life of your car! All depends on who's fitting, if the blow it up by not disconneting and reconnecting properly!

P.S if ever need to jump start the car, remove your amp's fuse (if you have one!) know loads of peeps who've killed amps that way!

Only ever had one stereo and that is a Sony Xplod series CD player I got in 2003 IIRC, was a long time ago. Does the job perfectly; looks nice many people love the looks, reliable, no fancy displays that do different screen savers, good old LCD display that doesnt zap power from the unit to run nonsense graphics. Always sounds good too, goes loud without distorting have been very pleased.

Got it for 80quid back then.

If you want something to play music and nothing crazy then go for a Sony, good buy, if thats what you are after. If you are looking for crazy spec top quality madenss, after huge sounds and you got cash to burn then go for a top brand like Alpine and the like.
