Im now on the hunt for a small to medium sized van, its going to be used to transport DJ equipment and also for a work van (chippy) What would people recommend? Ideally i want it to be cheap on fuel and reliable. Also im 18 by the time i get the van i will be 19 so what will i be expecting to pay on insurance? Ive herd vans are more expencive to insure? Thanks in advance :thumb:

Vans are more expensive to insure as it goes as said theres going to be tools in the back of it, and a lot of poeple dont like to pay for power tools!

A small medium van, Corsa Combi? Escort 55/75? VW Caddy? Peugeot Partner/Citreon Berlingo??

I have a Mercedes Vito (110 CDi), and it's excellent - reliable, economical and reasonably quick as well.

How much do these go for?

nova van 1.7td lol

I may 1.7td my corsa and van panel the back, would that then have to be insured as a van? What actually makes it a van?

I had a peugeot expert in my last job. It was slow as funk as it had no turbo but it never let me down once. Its the one alot of taxi drivers use aswell.

Incidently, the Nova Van rear bulkhead fits into a Corsa ;)

if your carrying tools and dj equipment you want something with leaf spring suspension to cope with the extra weight, im unsure as to what small vans have this tho

My boss pimps round in a VW Transporter which is pretty cool. Shifts well and still returns decent MPG, and has a cavernous back end even with the crew cab seating arrangement.

Van insurance isn't expensive as such, but commercial insurance is. Of course if you'll be using it for business purposes, you will need insurance cover to suit.

================================

That one looks OK on EBAY. Not sure what model it is, but my advice would be to ignore the 108 models, as they are gutless.

My 110CDi does about 35mpg if driven sensibly.

Thanks mate that sounds good.

So what makes a van a van? If took the rear windows out of my corsa and paneled the rear would that then be classed as a van?

Umm well tbh thats the point of the thread, i have never taken notice of vans so i havent a clue what to look for.

It needs to be reliable and fairly fuel efficient, but have enough room to fit all my dj gear (2x 15" cabs, 18" bin, amp rack, table, lighting, CDJs and mixer plus other bits and bobs)

Im not sure how much space like a astra van fould have? Enought to fit all that (very heavy) or would i have to go for something a bit bigger/heavyer? :thumb:

As Ash says, the critical thing is, how much have you got to spend?

You won't get a decent Vito for anywhere under £2k, and really you should budget for a fair bit more than that. Mine is a 2000 reg 'W' plate, and I had to give £3.5k for mine. Every one I went after was snapped up quickly.

Things may be a bit better now with the state of the economy, if you're lucky.

In an ideal world id like to spent around £1800-2000?

A lot of tradesmen are trading in their vans & downsizing or even down grading due to how the building industry has been hit by the credit crunch (allegedly) Should be bargains out there.
