I have a 1.2 Nova and am thinking of getting a bolt on K&N. Will it make it run like a bag of nails until it warms up and take longer to warm up. What is the fuel economy likewith a K&N? Also i have read that up jetting the main jet to 112.5 is a good idea. (Just a tip to anyone that has one and wants more from it).
Cheers.
I have a k&n on my 1.2 (carb not spi) - standard exhaust but s/steel back box (magnex I think). Car runs sweet with extra grunt and noise - a little better acceleration - nothing to slam you into yer seat gravity wise but in a 1.2 anythings better than nothing!
Need to set it up - I put mine on did no adjustments and failed my emmisions on mot - sposed to be less than 2% or summut - mine was at 8%!
:o
I actually found fuel economy improved - cars lowered 60mm on gmax springs n dampers on 15's so centre of gravity is lower - better handling from when it was standard set up - dunno if this helps.
Go for it - even if its just for the noise!
The only possible concern is in the winter - cold mornings some feel K&N hinders carb in winter - it has no warm air intake like standard box so ice forms in the carb on jets - making engine tun like sh1te. Just put yer standard air box back on if its a problem.

Cheers Bud.
I think i might wait untill the spring if it wont run well over winter. Failing that and i just cant wait, i might knock up a heat duct from the manifold, split it into three and have it pipping warm air to the front and sides of the K&N.
But then.... Will it run worse when it has warmmed up?? cos a warm car runns better from cool dense air?? This is getting f*cked up. I might just stick to the dustbin lid.

 Just had a cracking brain wave!! I could use the butterfly valve from inside the standard air box in my duct so that when it warms up it wont draw warm air!! :D
thats wot I had to do - I originally ran 2 bits of heater ducting to my K&N on the impression this would help (been freezing up here recently) - how wrong I was - it actually caused my car to stutter and stall on the motorway when I was going 90!
:o
had to pull over and rip the hoses off! Waited 10 mins for engine to cool down a bit then pulled off - ran a bit jerky for a bit but soon picked up.
I removed the big bin lid from the intake part of the standard air box and attached 2 metal ducting hoses to the end of the intake section containing the spring and section for the manifold duct (bit that goes down to manifold) and angled the 2 hoses at the carb - held it in place using brackets attached to the top of the carbs bolts and some tie clips. Had to mess about with it for a bit to line it up and get best performance but seems to run well. When the engine gets hot, the butterfly spring stops the hot air from flowing so just cold air rushes through - giving it a little extra air - needed to adjust the mix slighty as extra air made it run a little erratic - seems to be fine now.
What hastle!
But fun!
:D
...then he drove home and found the engine stalled when at traffic lights (see my other post on stalling!).
Someone suggested using hosing and put a piece of card at the front of the K&N reducing the amount of hot air getting in but giving enough to stop it from icing over.
I'm going to try this and see what happens...
