Im looking at some really good road tyres for my new 14" rims. I will only be using them in the dry as I have steelies for winter so was thinking about some road legal slicks.
What do people recomend and in what size??
cheers

Dont think you can get road legal full slicks, or are you thinking about cut slicks/trackday tires?
Arent the Yoko ones the things to have?
do a search, this has been covered in quite good detail before, check out www.camskill.com (http://www.camskill.com)
Basically, the main option is toyo r888, but I have heard that they arent as good as the yoko A048's (used on arial atoms's etc) but they are half the price.

Are these both road legal??
What would be a good size to go for?
imho/ime its best to go up to 15" as there is shed loads more choice for the same/less money as 15" wheels are far more common for sticky tyre use.
they are indeed bioth road legal, id say something like a 185/55/14 or 195/55/14, 185/60/14 should be a good size. A hell of a lot people seem to love the toyos, seem to be around £60-65 in a 14" which is similar to a 15".
Edit: Having just seen Stuarts post, IIRC he runs the hankook ones from that camskill website and theyre £49 each in a 15"...

i got fed up of looking for revolution RFX's in a 15" so got 14" instead when they came up. So it will have to be 14"
The Hankook RS2's were great for the first 10K (front tyres on a Vx/Elise simply dont wear).... then they went hard and crap :(
For a wet tyre I cant rate the KU31's highly enough. And they stand up to dry abuse everso well..... but they arent a semi slick lol

Couldnt be further from the truth in my experience, maybe for larger 15 inchers sizes but 195 50s are about the only size i ve found and they are mainly in the expensive r888s and a few others, but i know of only 1 or 2 types that come in 195 45s. (but i guess that depends on if your willing to use tyres that rub and catch slightly, im not)
The most common size without a doubt is 13s, as most single seaters and seven style kit cars use them. sadly these arent much cop if your running 256mm brakes, so the next size up are 14s, ones like the above mentioned yoko a048s or a032s, they all come in 14s. Ive used the 32s and despite being too soft (IMO) for hard road use they do give excellent grip. Next best (and cheapest IF you can find them are maxsport or colway intermediates.

Ive used them for a few Autosolos and despite being a little less gripy than the above yokos, so last alot more. The other bonus with them is they are a good 'damp' condition tyre. maiking it a little safer for road use incase you get caught in a random typical english shower.
The other Maxsport option and the very bare minimum you can get away with for road legal 'slicks' are the RB5s,

ive found these quite good but you need to get heat into them to get the most out of them, due to the large amount of surface area and lack of 'movement' in the treads it takes a while to get them up to temp.
dont know about youre uk rules, here we can drive with some brands of rally slicks (indy racing iirc)

The rule is 17% here Ie 17% of the surface are must have recessed tread. Thats not 100% as some tyres are still marked 'for competition use only'.
