This is for all you pro bodywork people (ahem.. Benn :D ).
My Nova will soon be visiting the bodyshop for a full repary, exterior only :) . Whats the deal with ceramic laquer? I know that top marques i.e Ferrari use ceramic laquer on their paint jobs coz its supposedly lasts longer better finish etc.
Whats the cost difference between a good quality Laquer and this ceramic shizzay?
Anyone used sprayed this stuff?
Gen me up.
Thankski :thumb:
Think Nick J or Rexy (or both) were talking about it the othr day. I'd imagine its fecking hard to sand back, should you get it wrong...
Shouldnt really be much harder to sand back, but its not worth it.
Will cost more so its a waist of cash and you still see cars with it that have chips..
Its a toughter stuff, thats about it really, there have been stuff like it tryed for ages. Bmw used to use a "special" lacquar, but that chips and peels like anything else..
Just use normal lacquar. Remember more isnt allways better.

Heard it from the horse's mouth ;) . Good old standard laquer it is then :thumb:
But, You want a good Clear coat not some cheap shizzle, Make sure its a HS or somthing like that, And ask them do do an extra coat just to build the film up a little more then you can flat it back a little bit more in case of light scratches etc.
I always do 2-3 coats of clear dependant on the job etc, but im heavy with the second coat.

I dunno what paint the dude uses over here but will tell him to do an extra coat or two. As was mentioned, I want it looking bling so the heavy or extra coat should give good scope for flatting and compounding to get a nice shine.
Plus it being very very hot and sunny over here will help to keep the paint lasting longer. Hopefully coz of the heat, lots of sunshine and low humidity rust shuld be a thing of the past :D (once its been sorted)
Benn, quick question seeing as you a bodywork guru, Im brining my car over to Cyprus. The geeza who I had a chat with regarding the bodywork and paint recomended to me that when the car comes over here to let it live through the summer sun as the heat will dry up any moisture and if there is anymore rust waiting to come through this is the time that it will happen.
Is this actually true? Will the heat and sun bring up any rust that is due?
Just thought Id ask :thumb:

Yes, the dryer the car is the better it will be, this is why nova is like the south of france, spain and so on dont rust. As the heat drys the cars out they never retain water so dont rust, same when under sealing cars, the under side should be bone dry(i mean like 1+weeks out of the wet ness)
Dryer the better.

OK, but if there is anymore rust due, will the sunshine actually bring it out once the sun drys the car?
i.e he said ''you can bring the car over and get the bodywork done asap but when summer comes the sunshine will dry up the body totally then you may find that rust starts to break through around the car''

Wouldnt think so, as it will dry the water out. Rust wont happen anless theres water there.
Maybe leave it out in the sun for say 2months, cause that will dry all and water water out, then gett your bodyswork done.

See thats what I thought. Couldnt get my head around what he was saying so I just agreed wth him :wtf: lol .
But yeah deffo a good idea to let the car sit in the sunshine for a good month or so and dry out all the London moisture and salty goodness.
Cheers Benn :thumb:
