Only difference is on very early mk1 tailgate, they had no plastic handle.

There is a diffrence, the tailgate with the plastic handle has a bigger resess for the number plate you would notice it with the handle removed. Keep hunting for an early tailgate.

I may have miss read the post i thought he was asking about using the plastic trim tailgate without the plastic trim fitted so it looks like an early tailgate.

its not mk1 or mk2
its on both mk1's some early ones dont have grab handle and some later mk1's do
