View Full Version : Attention... carbon fibre or fibreglass bonnet owners
Hi all,
A while ago I got in touch with performance trim regarding a carbon bonnet for my nova. I said I wanted the bonnet to utilise all normal fittings/catches and be fully carbon on the underside too. This I was told wasnt a problem. The other week said bonnet arrived and this evening I unwrapped it ready for fitting at the weekend. Once unwrapped I was a bit dissapointed to notice it didnt have the following....
1. Nowhere at all to attach/fit the bonnet catch
2. Nowhere to house the plastic clip that the bonnet stay slots into
3. Nowhere to house the rubber height adjusters on either side
So my questions are are you all using aero catches/pins? so theres no need for the catch etc And what above the rest of the above.. I imagine you could cut the bonnet to suit point 2 and 3 but I'm rather reluctant to start abusing £550 worth of bonnet! Are all carbon/fibreglass bonnets supplied as above?? Any advice appreciated, thanks, Nick.

Nick.
Certainly in my experience these lightweight panels don't have the facility to use the standard fittings.
Bonnet pins are easy to fit.
I've not yet fitted the Aerocatch type, they look a bit more tricky.
Colin
Every f/g bonnet ive seen fitted is done so with bonnet pins.
So the catch etc is redundant.

As above, if however I'd spent £550 on a bonnet that I'd specifically asked to retain standard mounts etc, I'd be looking for a refund/re-work.

Send it back Nick, tell them it isnt as described and buy GDN16V's for alot less
Thanks for the reponses guys... I did specifically ask to retain the standard catchwork/fittings. It looks like I'll be returning it then!
Mark... Thanks, you never know I may just be doing that! :)

As above with me personally, only ever used standard pins...
Aerocatches seem a bit more technical though lol

aerocatches are a litle tricky but not that hard
my old corsa carbon bonnet had was like for like fit, no pins etc
yeah send it back, the carbon bonnet on my old RX7 used all the original fixing's and catches so it was a direct swap. a friend has a corsa bonnet too which is an almost perfect replica of the original bonnet even the underside with all the original fixings and catch ect

That is exactly what I thought... The threads are there for the hinges and the bonnet spring plunger but no holes for height adjusters on either side, bonnet stay or the main problem being no bracket for the bonnet catch itself!

many people have got stuff from PT and non that i know of have complained, good stuff from them :thumb:
Spoke to Mike today.... Basically he said it was a small oversight having no bracket for the catch etc, he's taking my bonnet back and making me a new one which will inc the holes for the height adjusters and bonnet stay bracket etc . hopefully all will be well soon! :)
