View Full Version : gte trims
Recently I have been getting rid of rust and generally tidying up my paintwork. My problem is that now ive come to put the bumpers and trims back on I cant stick the trim to the bodywork to finish it off. I have tried the trim tape you can get from halfords but its not strong enough to hold the trim in place. What do the pros use as it was a job getting the stuff off. I dont want to glue the trim back on as if I need to remove it again, it would damage the paintwork.

Do you mean the grey Moulding that goes 1/4 of the way up the car? I have it on my SR, when it came to replacing it I brought some new stuff which came with a stick back on it.
If your after a stylish look I'd forget it it costs a bomb too, but it's a must if you have a bump, like me today :x
I agree - I had it all around my mk2 as it was then. Leave it off and remove the lower vynal on the doors aswell. Just leave the lower 1/2 of the tailgate if you have it there.
The bump strips look much better off and trust me you dont bump yer doors when they are off - your more careful!
As for peeps bumping your car - they aint gonna protect yer doors cos theyre too low on most novas compared to most cars nowadays.
The only vynal I have on my car is the b pillars between the windows. Looks much cleaner - smoother lines etc...

ade did you colour code it does it stay on or flake off i want to leave so i dont scratch the door but it gone a bad gray and i cant get it black
I never used vynal on my rebuild - I simply masked the areas off and sprayed with satin black paint then lacquered!
Came up shiney but slightly dull (if that makes sense)
Vynal too fiddly and expensive. Wont flake providing you key the surface 1st (1200 wet n dry) - I've used cans on both by resprays and it came up mint every time. If u do yer tailgate, make sure you lacquer it cos the spray from the road (vortex at back of car) very clowly ships the paint. Did to mine anyway!
