Burgo FTW lol

Tbh i dont think theyre gay i just like using my right to vote burgo:thumb:

I used to be into my mountain biking and we all used to run lightweight alloy bolts for brakes and chainrings and the like so i can see the benefit especially when youre after faster and faster track times so i say no theyre not gay!

**edited** as i sounded like i was contradicting myself lol

Deepends on price!

I may have agreed until I was told you can choose your colour, and assorted logos for them.

Any machoism gone ergo GAY lol

GDN16v
17-09-08, 08:05 PM
Definately gay! Over priced, over rated, mininal weight loss and should only be used on race cars which have to have every gram shaved off!!:wtf::thumb:

RSTChris
17-09-08, 08:05 PM
pmsl gotta agree there

so how much

Lee
17-09-08, 08:08 PM
Anyway, we are not discussing the merits of using them, we are discussing if anodised titanium wheelnuts are gay or not!

GDN16v
17-09-08, 08:09 PM

17-09-08, 08:36 PM
how much are they?
(thats a major deciding factor of the gayness!lol )

burgo
17-09-08, 08:38 PM
well alloy ones are £4 each so titanium ones are probably about £10 each lol

dhdev (Oli)
17-09-08, 09:07 PM

adam c
17-09-08, 09:12 PM
between £3 and 3.50 each

nah pretty cool then but if they were £10 each(£160 on wheels nuts!:tard: )then they would be gaylol

burgo
17-09-08, 09:12 PM
lol if someone is paying £4 each for an alloy one... they're paying over the odds lol

£between 3 and 3.50 eachto be fair the price i am quoting is out of demon tweeks so yes over the odds

For the weight you're gonna save, why not have a big dump instead?

dhdev (Oli)

But if you had a dump AND bought the wheelnuts, you'd be even lighter ;)

burgo
17-09-08, 09:16 PM
i think you have to be a hard core weight saver to understand

Stoo
17-09-08, 09:19 PM
i agree with weightsaving

unsprung mass ftw

shaper steering response, better handling, better suspension response, faster acceleration

all ever so slightly, but every little helps!

trackdaynova
17-09-08, 09:25 PM
lol @ me, it's not as Sainsburys say... as thats "taste the difference" lol

mikey14sr

On an out and out track car, used in serious competition, perfectly fine imo.

Used for anything else, I vote gaaaaaaaaay, to me it's like spending an extra £30 on a pair of trainers just because they've got a fancy label on them, when a plain simple pair will still do what they're designed to do, and probably last longer!

(based on my own previous experience of Nike's longevity comapared to brands like hi-tech and others)

dhdev (Oli)

If you're gonna be running Titanium wheelnuts, I hope your studs are trimmed down as much as possible! :thumb:

Adam C- I'm definately not carrying excess weight, that's for sure ;)

Stuart

I dunno, your nips look heavy....

I voted Gay as its simply a costly gayness for next to no gain... I bet you'd notice more "feel" change by cocking about with tyre pressures than the Tit nuts.

Also on that basis you want to be using Helium in the tyres and running a much much lower pressure than normal to keep that weight down lol

Do you think I could go nip-less? Give me a smooth euro look :wtf:

titanium is gay to machine, in fact if possible never go anywhere near Nickel Titanium as thats a right pain to machine as its heat shape memory lol

Ernie
18-09-08, 09:26 AM
Hold them on with a bit of spit and bubble gum works fine on mine and alot lighter lol.

Pistol Pete
18-09-08, 09:48 AM
I'd say gay. Weight saving is good but thats abit extreme... But then i've got a titanium rod in my leg so does that mean im gay:eek: and lightweight??!!lol

Just out of pure curiosity, how much do these cost and where to get them ;) lol ?!

Ernie
18-09-08, 09:50 AM
yes lol

Titanium body parts/glasses etc are cool as funk, Titanium on a lardy ****d nova is GAYYYYY lol

novarally
18-09-08, 10:14 AM
Definitely they're good.

I used to use them on my Nova race car, until a scrutineer spotted them and insisted I change them for steel ones (Hillclimbs/Sprint regulations dictate steel only for wheel nuts/bolts).

only if they sleep together, or listen to a lot of George Micheal.

Thats very harsh!

rules is rules!

supposing someone used plastic wheel nuts? that seems a flippant example but steel is specified in the interest of safety.

I vote gay in this case lol You need a c/f roof skin and bonnet, f/g doors etc to warrant them lol
Next thing you will be wanting to get down to a size zero lol

would this be a good time to mention the fact ive actually been pricing up titanium bolts for all the front suspension compents? its the suspension components to start with aswell, ill move on to replacing other bolts after that

loggyboy
19-09-08, 11:14 AM
I vote burgo ...

but they not gay.. weight saved by having a dump does not reduce Unsprung weight... which is the key advantage over any other weight saving..

Ps where do you get TIT NUTS from?

NavNova
19-09-08, 01:55 PM
Is far as I understand it titanium isnt really strong enough for using as wheel nuts.
I know that WRC teams use them but they get replaced at every tyre change. So thats about every few hundred miles. You shouldnt use them unless you can afford that sort of expense.

Wheels falling off is very gay.

On a Nova they are gay IMO.

On a Radical or something similar, hell yeah.

Gay on your car olly because you are carrying around possibly 2 of the heaviest seats out on the market

Start with the big heavy stuff first then start shaving your nuts

Wheels falling off is very gay.i thought titanium was stronger than steel

Welsh Dan
19-09-08, 04:29 PM
No, titanium is much softer, but much much lighter. A titanium bar needed to support x weight at y reach would weigh a lot less than its steel counterpart, but be much thicker.

NavNova
19-09-08, 04:33 PM
Ahh, I though it was stronger but it just cant take the same abuse.

So on an application like a wheel nut where the thickness is fixed a titanium nut would be weaker.

ive heard if you pack in smoking you pile on the pounds,so no gains on the weight loss/track time effot!:p lol

Bullsheezer chap ;) the reason they get replaced every tyre change (well, apparently they change them) is to keep the nuts thread clean, thus completly minimising the chance of cross threading them :thumb:

BTW, WRC teams would do one stage then change tyres, so say about 20 miles if that (including road miles where competitive driving is N/A)
