Centre console hole? Tie-bar painting.

My mk2 never had a center console and i wondered if there is a hole already under the carpet? If not il find another way of holding it down. Just don't want to make a hole in my mint carpet for no reason.

I have a spare set of tie bars and mounts, i figured the best way for me to paint the tie bars is spray, but the mounts i thought they wouldn't get fully covered? since they were acid dipped before i brought them. I had an idea of powder coating, but afaik that's expensive.

Theres a wee clip under the carpet which you'l need to cut the carpet for

I'm not sure if it clicks into place or whether you need to screw it down...can't remember

The tie bar mounts are exposed to the elements, so something that'll help deal with rust would be a plus. I'd dip the mounts in hammerite and make sure that you give them several coats.
