"Average speed cameras that track drivers over long distances are to be rolled out across the country to replace Gatsos, it has been reported. Currently the cameras – dubbed 'yellow vultures' – are used where road works are taking place, but ministers now plan to use them in accident black spots, in residential areas and on motorways."
LEE69 posted this on MIG so bringing it to PNG :)

i signed up to the petition :)
There will be so many idiots losing their licences as they do not understand how these cameras operate. No great loss there, but to put them everywhere is a massive piss take! You can picture all cars in the future travelling at set speeds via radar guided cruise control.
We do not need them everywhere there is currently a Gatso.

i agree it is really pathetic, beinge constantly monitored its not right
These are pish easy to avoid, simply remove front number plate before your journey.
It makes money, they do not care... the people who have come up with this plan won't own a car, And they would rarely leave london city centre. Therefore its a great idea as it is not causing them any problems at all and they will be getting a **** load of money from people who are caught speeding.
radar guided cruise control.
I've worked on an adaptive cruise control system and I wouldnt trust the fcuking thing lmao.
tbh I've not got a problem with average speed cameras being put in, as it will start to FORCE people to hold constant speeds, which in turn will lead to better flowing traffic, better fuel economy, slightly less aggravating journeys etc.
Provided they are kept off B roads and tracks I really dont see a problem.
You can't get away without a front plate though. I used to run my car without one and got nothing but police attention. Doing so currently on the Motorways will get you the attention of the VOSA wombles and in turn the traffic police.
If they use them in residential areas and other areas where there are not road works but it is possible to stop / exit the road then i agree you can dodge them that way.

Ive never had any issues doing it? Keep the plate on the dash, remove it when you join the motorway. Job done. Its never ever caused me any issues at all!

They aren't in practice anywhere though to my knowledge so your findings possibly echo some of theirs lol

Sorry mate, misunderstood you. I meant running without the plate on the bumper off the motorway. Yeah, unlikely to get hassle on the mway unless spotted by a traffic car on a flyover or something. Then could always try the old it's just fell off trick but having a snapped one in the car i guess

oh its fully in production in the New Mondeo lol
I assume you mean a gps based form of speed limiter, that'll be safe......
no, its traditional cruise with a radar setup in there to detect other cars and slow you down... still far from safe lol
for example when you go round a corner & there is a bus stop near the kerb, surely the radar will go loopy??
for gods sake, police speed radars don't exactly pick out 2 cars driving near each other.... What about some poor sod delivering pizzas on his rev & ripper???
Have you ever heard the statement that the roads would be much safer if a big pointy spike shot out of the steering wheel during an accident instead of an airbag??? every 'improvement' causes even more complacency......
are we not allowed to actually drive our cars anymore?
Jesus, some of these farking things will end up killing somebody one day.

that'll be why they have a tendancy to almost go into the back of my truck, hmm, obviously takes a while to recognise something in front, maybe I'll start hitting the brakes and take a few off the road!

I suppose if they do decide to use them on the motorways then maybe they will increase the speedlimit?! I do agree with what Stuart said, flow of traffic will be better for one thing which is what stuffs up the motorways ATM.
and also keep those HATO's off the funking motorway!!! or atleast make the ****s drive at 70mph. They do 45-50mph on the inside lane so Lorrys have to pass them, and also ****nuts drivers who think they will get pulled for overtaking them hang back causing a big bubble of really slow pointless traffic. GRRRR

HATO's??
VOSA traffic wombles I'm guessing lol
Oh noes genuine police!

Correct, Take the "lexus style" rear lights for instance.. Jeez!
HATO's??
Highways Agency Traffic Officers..... you know the "wannabe police" but worse than PCSO's lol
We've Speed Cameras signs all over the country, but only 2 actual Cameras. lol

Driving at 70 is worse, beacuse those who think they are police wont overtake them! I find most half decent copppers will sit at 65 to allow people to overtake them without fearing.
I make a point of passing them at over the speed limit (as i also do with non-traffic/patrol cars, british transport police and military police)
^^ lol i do the same haha

I passed a B/T police van (late evening virtually no traffic) the other week and ahe started flashing at me (headlinghts) and I just waved at him and carried on to (cough) 1** mph.
Give someone a uniform and they suddenly get a napoleon complex..
lol Reminds me of when the fire brigade was on strike and you could blast past the panda cars if they were escorting a green goddess.
I used to do the same with the riot vans too. Not big, not clever, but funny lol
We say charv/charva up here. I do believe we invented said term.
I agree though lol
