What's people opinions on these? I'm thinking of keeping with Vauxhall/Opel and venturing a bit firther down memory lane than a Nova. I love the retro look. But what are they like to drive/own?

Wish I had the money for a good Manta A though! ;)

My dad had few when i was younger

Great cars imo nothing special performance wise but an Xe is a simple swap and the boxes are still there when and if you need them.

Money wise you will be struggling to find a very good coupe for less than £3k but there's plenty of garage find hatch's to be snapped up :thumb:

I have one, not a bad car to drive considering the age of them, I love driving mine!!

Not good as a daily car though I'd say, too fond of rusting for that!!! They rot nearly everywhere, and try to buy as early a model as possible without a sunroof.

I actually had one as one of my first cars when I was 14 or 15. The problem is that I thrashed it as much as a 14/15 year old could. But I would give my left leg for a decent early Manta B. Top Choice.

AMG, PM sent mate.

Thanks for opinions, i'll certainly be looking into it more. I was for some reason, expecting a whole host of people telling me to think twice!

I have one aswell (EDIT-its not novatakenwales im just using his screen name) Opel Manta GT/E in something or th other black, Its a Coupe and its an awsome car to drive, double wishbone setup at the front means great handling! Did one rally in it and wanted to sell my 205 GTi straight away!:D

But rust has killed a lot of them, If your still thinking of one then check the...

*Chassis legs
*A post
*Inner Wings
*Inside the boot
*Sills because Opel decided to cut the dranage pipes about 3 inches too small
*Around The Sunroof
*Nosecone
*Rear Arches

Parts are available but be preapred to spend a lot a nosecone from Germany is around 500 euros!

Here is a pic of mine
