I give looking at my car/engine wondering when it's going to fix itself - so far it hasn't :( So I've got to do something about it before the next season as well as the other bits and pieces.

I remember one of the parts guys in Vauxhall told me they did an E16SE bottom end (short motor) for £600, this is now looking like a very viable option rather than new pistons and machining, etc.

I was just wondering whats involved in using the 16v bottom end for an 8v

-OR-

Is the astra 1.6 8v (Z16SE) bottom end any better than the older nova blocks?

E16SE is 8v

Don't bother with a 16v

Is your block already overbored? If not it will be worthwhile as the cost will be similar to a new block, but you'll get higher compression and slightly larger capacity. Just make sure its put together properly.
