If its a mk1 then the following should help, if its mk 2 i have no idea mate sorry.
Hmmm Lovely job this is, especially replacing the one on the drivers side.
Anyways you will need:
A Cross headed Screwdriver
(i think) a 10mm spanner/socket for inside the glovebox
To make sure youre mum isnt around cos u will swear Lots!!!!
Anyways remove the glove box for starters (There are two screws at the bottom and 2 screws inside, then a 10mm bolt inside at the bottom)
If u move your seat back and lie in a crippling position on the floor lookin upwards you can see the speaker, disconnect the wires from it to make it easier then try and locate the screws. There are two screws securing the speaker in they are on the side nearest the windscreen. remove these and the speaker should drop out of the clips on the other side and come out.
To do the drivers side i found it took about an hour on my first attempt, the first thing to do is remove the fuse box from its current position do this by removing the lid then pressing the two clips in at the bottom and manoeuvering it out, it will sit on the parcel shelf below without damaging any wires. Also if you dont have side air vents (to the right of the light controls) then remove the panel (just stick ure hand in the fuse box hole and push it out) this should give you just about enough room to remove the speaker from this side, its in the same position as the other one so just try very hard and swear lots and u should be able to do it.
When i fitted some new speakers in place of the old i paid the lad next door (who is 9 and has small arms) to fit my drivers side, took the little sod about 2 minutes!!!!!
Anyways i hope this helps mate

Cheers Matt!!
It is a Mk1 thank god! otherwise ur help would have been no good for me, lol.
Think I might remove them and extend the wires to go to the doors and fit some 15cm or 17cm speakers, hope theres room :?
Holster - You can fit 23cm component speakers in the doors if you want, I have Pioneer units in mine. Either way listen to what I have to say... When you have the doorcard off sound deaden the door skin, I used 3 self adhesive pads per door stood up on their ends. Secondly, make sure you cut the holes low enough to miss the door stay, Doh!
