Anyone had any joy with this? My mate has had pretty good success but wasn't using 100% baking soda, which I am. Just started mine yesterday though, going to check on it shortly.

I remember Austin used a similar process in a large barrel.
Martin tells me on MSN that you can use coke too? i don't mind a bit of graft cleaning things up, but it's annoying when you can't get in everywhere and certain things like specific bolts etc are a good thing to clean up with this method, or have them coated like Dec did.

Link to similar setup to mine http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/andyspatch/rust.htm

Opinions and comments good and bad kids?

Try Bilthamber mate, i used it on a few parts and its bloody good stuff,

This is a cutting from my build im doing, and used it on the pump bracket

I have used it already mate,
THis is the upper mount for gsi fuel pumps, used the bilthamber solution, mixed with 19 parts water to 1 part powder.

Started with this

Now i haven't touched this with anymore than a toothbrush, its was soaked for about 72 hours using the weak solution strength.

This is after

There is still some bits of rust, but i believe that it will clear it using the stronger solution

Im I right in thinking it weakens the metal slightly tho? or maybe that was just vinegar...

Its acid that embrittles metal, mainly high tensile steel as it introduces hydrogen into the metal iirc

yeah this stuff doesn't affect surrounding metal.

It works better if you can heat the water to a max of 60 degrees c iirc

I used it on a box of bolts i have for the car, makes one hell of a difference

I used electrolysis on some reallyrusty brake callipers, but I used caustic soda instead (sodium hydroxide for any chemists). I tried baking soda but it was just too slow. I've also used some of the acid cleaners, but I'd use the caustic soda if it was really bad.

It looks the part alright, but Its not going to be plausable for most parts on a car though.

Wire Brush and Hammerite FTW!!
