Thousands of motorists are at risk of being fined up to £1,000 because they are unwittingly driving without a valid licence.
They risk prosecution after failing to spot the extremely small print on their photocard licence which says it automatically expires after 10 years and has to be renewed - even though drivers are licensed to drive until the age of 70.

Motoring organisations blamed the Government for the fiasco and said 'most' drivers believed their licences were for life.

The photocard part of the license - new photo is needed every 10 years basically.

as breeny said, just like passports expire due to how people change in look's over ten years etc etc..


mine expires on 20/01/10 - still got a year and few months left yet :)

Neither did i so youre not the only one, and you wouldve thought so but having said that how can they let it expire and fine you loads of money if they send out reminders, i was 16 on my privisional photo and its the same one on my full licence so im kinda nervous now as that was over 10 years ago!

31/10/16 so i have a wile yet lol.
I only changed to this a wile back after the police lost my paper one in the post wile sending it back to me not recorded and got lost.

lol i got until 2011 as i took 1 yr 11 mths to send of my pass certificate after i passed. Got a letter saying if you dont submit in 2 weeks you will need to resit test so then sent it off lol.
