hi im after some advice. iv sourced a 1.6 8v turbo motor to go into my engineless nova (ex c20let with f28) the problem is iv fitted the box mount for the 6 speed and the car is 5 stud using motorsport shafts so i either change the beam, shafts, wheels and weld a 5 speed mount back in and run 4 stud, or adapt the 6 cog which id like to do as its got an lsd to. an old mate of mine dav fitted an f16 into his 1.6 turbo (mustard yellow with lilac pearl, 17'' mim raffinos if anyone remembers it?) he said a few bolts had to be left out of the bellhousing and a clutch needed to be made up, unfortunately iv lost his number so cant ask him. i realise the f28's splines are different to the f16 he fitted but does anyone know if this can be done?? thanks in advance..

I dont know the ins and outs but it should fit. You can make an F13 fit a Bix Block with 17TD Clutch and Flywheels (iirc) so it shouldnt be much of a difference doing the reverse. I'm sure someone else can advice but I'd say, based on the info I have, that yes, it can be done.

17TD flywheels weighs about as much as the car!

I would hazard a guess that something like a 1.8 bigblock flywheel from an old Astra GTE/Cav SRi would be what you need. Sorry I can't be sure but the chap from Finland running the same setup told me in an email ages ago (I lost it)..

You need a big block flywheel to match the bolt pattern on the 1600 crank. Sort that & you should be able to use a combo of clutch parts to mate it all up.

I'm sure theres a 1600 8v running an F28 in the MIG projects section... in fact I'm 99% I've seen one.

I'll have a quick look now.

EDIT: Can't find it, grrrr

I've read that somewhere, the white 1600-T GSi in the PNG features section (Dave Duthies) is reported to being built up with an F28.

I remember seeing pictures of it, both in and out of the car.

if i remember correctly you will need a c20ne/c20seh flywheel. this uses the size 228mm clutch same as the xe/let but this flywheel mounts to the crank with 6bolts as opposed to 8 so should bolt straight up. then you will need the matching pressure plate and an f28 friction plate. pretty straight forward conversion. just the same stuff with the f28 tho with lowering the tie bars (even on the wishbones) for clearance. and then the mounts and linkage modifications.

its an n/a 1.7 derv flywheel to convert big block to f13,
i'd say it would have to be an ne or seh fly because they have the same bolt pattern for the crank and use the same size clutch as the f28

Lives in Eastbourne?

thats the guy, dav. a mad irish lad. i drove all the way down from north wales to buy a turbo off him years ago. lost his number now though, shame cos he's a nice lad with a lot of knowledge. he had a mk3 astra with a 3l v6 last time i spoke to him
