Not sure if this should be in Mechanical or what...but here goes lol

Will fitting 100w bulbs in my Nova have any affect on the battery / alternator ?

Could they cause any other problems apart from Police trouble lol

Cheers, Vaughan :)

Headlight switch and dipped/main beam

you will get voltage drop with them, this means they will not be as bright as they should. you will notice this when you switch from dip to main beam, it will be slow coming onto main beam.

they work fine on cars with a relay circuit..

stick with the standard bulbs chum..

lol This doesn't seem like a wise idea fitting these then ?

PIAA do ones which are ~100W output, but still only 55/60W draw. IF you want to stump up the cost, they are good burners.

Also bear in mind that the bluer the light, the darker it will be.

If you really want decent lights, get some HIDs. Although they won't technically be legal, neither willl ~100W burners!

My dad said the ones that he ordered me are 12v 100w bulbs...

Heres the link from eBay --- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330269422556&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=014

Will these work OK ?

To let you all know, for those interested lol

I got the 100w bulbs today and white/blue sidelights

Fitted them no problem and took the car out a run - What a difference they make, well worth the money!

Battery gauge didn't drop any lower than normal with the full beam on which is good news :)

They also operate at 12v but have a 90/100w power output - No idea what that means though lol

All car headlight bulbs will be 12v. The 90/100W means they're more powerful than standard ones (55/60W) on low/high beam. That link doesn't say about them having a 55/60W draw though, and the fact your battery gauge doesn't shift when you switch them on means they're no more powerful than normal. TBH for £5 they probably are just normal bulbs with some blue paint on them lol

If they are brighter, please please please make sure your headlights are properly aligned. Bright headlights are fine, but even normal headlights on poorly adjusted lamps are the most annoying thing ever!

Higher wattage bulbs have the potential to overload the old std wiring. Risk of fire at worst..

Ill agree with that one, and for some reason i seem to notice mk4 astras to be the worst for badly alligned uber bright headlights.

Im running Ring 100w bulbs in the headlights and front fogs on my cav and, dont seem to have encountered any probs so far and i do a lot of driving about on a night and with my lights on anyways (rememeber it from my cbt days, youre less visible without lights on even in a car) so whipped it onto the mot ramp at our work the next day and had them lined/levelled up properly as i dont wanna be the uncle nob head driving the driver in front insane with sun tan inducing headlight intensity lol!

View of the back of a mk2 headlight, top left adjusts beam angle i.e. left to right, and you can use the adjuster wheel on the back of the motor bottom right to adjust beam height.

Hows that do ya, btw whats "any gen" mean?
