Who cares if nobody else likes it as long as you do?

For pressed plates try http://dubmeister.co.uk/ or eBay.

I had a look on that dubmeister before at the plates. You can only seem to get german manufacturer (no opel  ) style borders. Or have i missed a section?

Euro style plates are also illegal as funk as my mate has some, they cost about 30 quid and he ended up with about 90 squid in fines for them!!

**edit** The ones posted by jaysnova are legal i think, its the ones with the - inbetween the number and last three letters and the flags that are illegal, think ill begetting some like jays for my GTE!

i thought it was just the euro print plates because the lettering but i also heard they were illegal because speed cameras dont catch a clear veiw as they are not reflective dont they class them as show plates because they do not have a bsau mark

yea they are really what i wanted i only bought the small plate to see what it would look like as my mate had a series 2 escort rs and his small plate looked well on it. just thought id experiment and see what it would look like but i prefer the standard look myself but i also like the way my small one looks.

but i wanted some presed plates for a while im not just changing them over beacause of others opinions im just doing it quicker beacause of them lol

Yes you are very correct, stupid me lol

If they dont have the lettering bottom right hand corner then theyre not legal, even if the lettering is there but in the top left i.e. the plates been made wrong then theyre still illegal!

Na jepson is the place thats supplied the materials to make the plates, we use jepson but dont think they put them in the top right anymore.
But thinking about it though the bsau thingy only applies to cars with plates made up after 2001 iirc, so not sure as this applies as much to pre-2001 cars but obviously if you got your plates made say yesterday then thats definately after 2001 lol

Smallprint from the site stevie-p posted........

German plates on this site are sold strictly for off-road show use only.

ill probrably go for uk ones with st george's flag at the end

I have these, they're pressed metal. I like 'em :) Even new plastic plates give the car a fresher look, nowt worse than a cracked, faded plate (unless it still has the original dealer sticker/ name on it- then it'd be a crime to replace it) lol

I dont get all this german plate stuff, think they look stupid and even more stupid getting a 30quid fine everytime you drive past a copper?

Spudly
09-09-08, 06:52 PM
Well intheory lynz can get away with them as theyre period to her car i think, as sports had them originally iirc and obviously lynzs is a year older, and imo they do look cool so ill try my luck when ive finished me GTE.

nova looks nice !!:thumb: well number plates look good like they definately look beter to the police than the one thats on the front at the moment really small.

i dont think my plates are origional to the car looking at them they just say hartwells garages but they dont have no vauxhall opel badges on them i wont be throwing away any way though so if they were they would go straight back on!! but you never know i got the car from down devon/cornwall ish lol so dont know what the dealerships are called round there

thanks again

Here's a website that specialises in old style metal plates opposed to european ones. Not sure if you'd be able to get away with them, maybe on a mk1.

On the site they claim the reflective pressed metal ones are valid for pre 2001 vehicles! Obviously black ones are pre 73 only.

As long as it's reflective and a legal font I can't see there being a problem.

Interesting thread. I sware the DVLA only include the details they want you to know about in these leaflets. I believe that you are entitled to display a number plate that conforms to any EU member states standards. If not they wouldn't be allowed to drive in the UK and they would have to have plates re-printed if they wanted to keep their cars over here. Also if you read carefully they state that the new legislation applies to plates (not cars) after 2001. Can anyone prove when you had a plate made?

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for the above opinion!

The other way to look at it...........stop being wet and have whatever plate you fancy!

My old BMW, never had a problem and as far as I'm aware the only illegal part is the lisence/tax/test stickers which are fake:

A nova, not my Nova!lol

I don't think you can beat a standard Red Nova GTE with original steel wheels and trims. I really like mk1's, unfortunately I have a mk2 which back on topic wouldn't look right with metal plates.
