View Full Version : My laptop is dying, poor thing
Its rammed with virus`s and sh*te :(
What ever has infected it appears to have taken my button thingy to get to all the programs (the one you see when you click "start")
Anyone know how to get it back? or know of another way of geting to my control pannel thing, to remove programs?
Oh and anyone know of any good anti virus programs? cheap too
Could you also explain it in dumbass terms please lol i know very little about computers
Danke
You can get AVG free online, if you can still access the internet.
And the start bar disapearing. Have you tried pulling it up, sometimes I'll panic but I've accidentally pulled it down. You should get little cursors like re-sizing a picture with two arrows on each end. Try hovering it over the bottom and see if it does anything.

my laptop at home only has one hinge and no surround for the front of the screen. Sliced my finger open on the snapped hinge last week :wtf: lol
Also, takes about 12 mins to fully boot, internet hardly works, can't watch vids although you used to be able to.
Its a hoot.
Also...DVD drive won't open manually, sound occasionally works lmao. Switches its self off randomly.
Anyways
As said, AVG is good and free. :thumb:
Avast is a good firewall too

Stick the recovery discs in and start again.

AVG is pretty good and you can't winge since its free :) It can be quite annoying though as sometimes it reports a virus when the file is actually clean.
My laptop recently bit the dust and I've only just got it back, lucky for me it is still under warranty as a new hardrive cost £319
I'm sure the companies that repair your computer sting the ass off Curry's and the like for warranty work lol

Agreed. A fresh install of Windows or other chosen operating system sounds like a winner.

Takes too long IMO. Quicker to delete all virus, do the disk cleaner rubbish etc, then leave a defrag running over night.
It doesn't take that long, and would solve all problems in one.

Sometimes the recovery disc is the only option left.
Besides, it doesn't take more than an hour or two to do that and load a few applications on. Plus you know the virus has 99% gone whereas without a format its more likely to be embedded in a file still ;)
Ive still got the start bar thing, just the button that when you hover the curser over and all the programs are listed, that has gone
Ive just downloaded that AVG but its not anything :( the virus`s are actually anti virus programs themselves  *******os
Havent got a recovery disc either grr
get avast and spybot - run them in safe mode
get malwarebytes anti malware - run that in normal mode
that should get most of the everyday stuff off it.

For anybody else who wanted to know. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malware)
Do you know what process' you need in the task manager? (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
When I run into problems I just kill anything I don't reconize - seems to work quite well. Then Run > msconfig and stop it starting up again. Then the PC is useable I run the anti-virus/spyware/etc. Shouldn't have a problem if you got a good firewall tho.
^ and anything you're not sure about, just type it into google.
TBH anyone who runs Windows should keep all their docs on a separate partition, and keep ALL installers/cds for programs. Then just reinstall Windows every few months.
Otherwise, install Linux lol
Im afraid that particular bug is an evil fecker. im not too shabby with computers and it beat me hands down a few months ago.
Your only option is to reformatt and reload windows. System restore fails, you wont be able to repair as windows wont let you repair an infected operating system (this particular virus attacks windows itself from the inside out). No anti virus software can find it once its in either. My anti virus software at the time for some reason didnt load up for a week for no apparent reason and it got in undetected.
in fact it even managed to prevent me from reformatting twice over, I was nearly on my way to PC world for a new hard drive but it took on the third go, and it even managed to make my life misery after a reload as well as it found its way onto my backup drives as well! Luckily i managed to get AVG back on before it could jump back onto the C drive, and it got well and truely owned lol
im not too shabby with computers
I would like to dispute that claim

I would normally go online for such things, but at that particular moment in time my PC may as well have been a paperweight lol
Just throw an XP/Vista disc in the drive and boot it up! It'll sort all your problems out..

You'll end up with more problems than you started with lol
I've installed Vista last week and tbh, its been hassle free - its actually a good OS..
